Chapter 8

Neji clenched his fist and joined you by Sato's side. He was luckily conscious and was able to speak.

"Oh, hey (y/n)," Sato said weakly.

"Hi Sato.. look I'm really sorry about-"

"It's ok (y/n), I know you didn't mean it."

"But I-"

"I'm ok, really."

Tears started to roll down your face and laid your head down on Sato's bed. Sato stroked your head, it forced more tears out of you. Neji stood there with an unknown anger. Neji's eyes didn't leave you, he hated seeing you like this. He put his hand on your back. You ended up falling asleep in a chair next to Sato's bed. Neji tried to get you up so you could go home.

"I wanna stay.."

He looked down at you holding Sato's hand. For whatever reason this mad him angry.

"Please Neji.." you asked, looking up at him.

"Fine.. but I'm staying too.."

"Thanks Neji.." you said as you fell back asleep.

When Sato was out of the hospital everything seemed to go back to normal. You and Sato would hang out almost every single day. Neji had asked one day if you guys could hang out more. Of course you said yes. One day it was just you and Neji hanging out at the mountain, when Sato showed up.

"Hey (y/n)," called Sato.

"Hiya Sato."

"What're you doing here," he asked.

"Just hanging out with Neji," you replied.

"Cool.."

Sato glared at Neji.

"We haven't hung out in a while, did you wanna grab a bite to eat later?"

"Actu-"

"(Y/n) and i already had something planned," said Neji, a little annoyed.

"Oh, sorry."

"It's ok, we can hang out tomorrow after training."

"Sounds good, I had something important I wanted to tell you anyways.." he said with a slight blush.

You looked at him confused, wondering what it could be. A few minutes later, Sato said he had to go. When he left Neji and you searched for a place to eat. You didn't find anything of interest so Neji offered to cook.

"Are you sure..?"

"Yes."

"Ok."

You headed back to your house. You changed into some different clothes and went to join Neji in the kitchen. You watched as he worked, noticing a mark on his forehead when he wiped his brow. Come to think of it, you've never seen Neji without his headband on.

"What's that," you asked, pointing at your forehead.

"It's nothing."

"Doesn't look like nothing-"

"I said, it's nothing!"

"Sorry.."

You both stood there in silence for a bit before Neji spoke.

"No.. I'm sorry.. it's just- I don't like to talk about it.."

"I understand."

You gave him a sweet smile.

"Thank you.."

The next day, you and Tenten sparred. She was really good and you had a good time sparring with her. You met up with Sato at your house so you could change. Then you guys left to go find something to do. You both decided to go shopping. After shopping you guys headed up to the mountain. When you reached the top, Sato stopped.

"S-so.. about the thing I was gonna tell you.."

You looked at him confused. You didn't notice Neji coming up behind the two of you. He was gonna walk up to say hi when someone pulled him into the bushes. It was Tenten, Ino, and Sakura.

"What are you guys doing," asked Neji.

"Shhhh, Sato's about to confess his feelings," Sakura whispered.

Neji's eyes went wide. What did they mean, confess his feelings? He sat in silence as he watched the two of you.

"(Y/n).. I.. I like you.."

Sato's face went red as he turned away, embarrassed. Neji felt sad for a moment as he got up and walked home. You looked at Sato, shocked that he felt that way about you.

"Sato, I-.. I don't feel the same way.."

"Yeah.. I figured as much.."

You wrapped him in a hug.

"I'm sorry.."

"It's ok.. can we still be friends?"

"Of course!"

Sato said he wanted some time alone on the mountain. On your way down you saw Neji up ahead.

"Nejiiiii," you called out, running up to him.

You threw your arms around his back. He pushed you away.

"What's wrong Neji?"

"It's nothing, I just don't like you hugging me."

"But I-"

"I don't like it ok, go hug that Sato guy if you want to hug somebody."

"Neji.."

"Just leave me alone."

He stormed off as you stood there, silent. Did he hear your conversation? He couldn't have, could he? Was he angry with you? You headed back home. Just as you were about to go to bed, you heard a knock at your door. You opened and saw a dark cloaked figure. It was Itachi.

"What are you doing here Itachi?"

"We need you back, we have a big mission. You won't be coming back."

You looked at him, shocked. What was the mission? Could you really just leave? You had made some friends.. no. You weren't here to make friends you were here on a mission and now that mission was fulfilled. Itachi needed you and you answered. You packed up your stuff and headed off into the night with Itachi. Just before you left the village you looked back. Sure you were going to miss everyone, but you were going to have to leave eventually. You couldn't help but think of Neji as you left. It would be better for him if you left, he was already mad at you so this will help him get over it. You and Itachi decided to take a rest a few miles west of the Hidden Leaf Village before continuing.

The next day Tenten knocked at your door. No one answered. She knocked again. Still no answer.

"(Y/n)," you called slowly creaking open the front door.

She looked around but couldn't find you. She went around asking if anyone had seen you. No one had. She started to freak out. She ran to Neji's house.

"Neji!"

"Yes, Tenten?"

"Have you seen (y/n)?!"

He hesitated, remembering last night.

"No."

"Shit-"

He looked at her confused.

"Something wrong," he asked.

"I think (y/n) is missing.."

His eyes went wide.

"What?!"
