Not a cat stirred in the ThunderClan hollow. Each cat was asleep, the Warrior's den full of tired warriors after a hard day's work. Silverpelt gleamed above; their stars marking the end of another long day.
Squirrelflight shifted uncomfortably, shivering in her thick ginger coat. It was the third day into Leafbare, and the air had gotten cold. She figured it wouldn't be long before it hailed, and then snowed, and the clan would be doomed to starvation for the next couple of days. She frowned, her grim thoughts only worsening her already dullened mood.
Stupid Brambleclaw. Stupid tom-cats! She thought, sinking her claws into the moss of her nest. She could hear the male cat in question snore from just beside her, flanks steadily rising and falling as he breathed. If the warrior's den hadn't been as full as it was, she'd have moved her nest from beside his long ago. StarClan be damned; she was tempted to move into the apprentice's den again, if only it meant getting away from the pretentious tom.She sighed, tucking her muzzle under her paws. If only he'd just listen to her. Maybe then things could go back to the way they were. Nowadays, the ginger feline could only reminisce on their memories of traveling together; the moons they spent together dodging danger at every turn to find their homeland. They'd been chosen by StarClan themselves to join together and save the clans, and now look. Their relationship had been torn apart, all thanks to that flea-brained brother of his! "Hawkfrost," she scoffed, his name leaving a bad taste on her tongue.
"Did you say something Squirrelflight?" Came Ashfur's voice, taking her slightly by surprise. Squirrelflight sat up abruptly, looking around. The ash-gray warrior was grooming himself quietly from where he sat upon his nest. He had a greasy pelt, and yellowing teeth. There was a reason no she-cat had taken him up.
"I'm sorry, Ashfur." She whispered, "Did I wake you?"
"No; I couldn't sleep." He shook his head. "Neither can you, from the look of it."
Squirrelflight glanced at the sleeping tomcat beside her. "Yeah, well..."
Ashfur's blue eyes glanced between the two. "I see." He mrrowed. "Would you like to go on a quick walk and talk? Maybe it'll tire us out a bit, and you seem like you could need it."
"Okay." She shrugged, standing up. Maybe it'd help her release some of that pent-up aggression she always has.
The two cat's left the warriors den silently, heading out towards the territory.
