a visit from the neighbor.
VICI STOOD NEXT TO A BENT OVER JO, one hand rested on her hip as she stared up at the big Laurence house. Jo looked up from her shovel full of snow with a scowl. Her back was aching from bending over for too long and she was getting annoyed with the amount of times Vici stopped picking up the snow. The younger twin prodded the elder's ankle with her shovel, making her hiss in slight pain. The brunette snapped her head to Jo, sending her a nasty glare."Oh, don't you give me that look. I should be giving you that look. You haven't done very much. This was supposed to be fun, but all I'm having is back pain," Jo grumbled to Vici, adjusting herself to stand up right next to her sister.
Vici scoffed, scrunching her face up, "I'd hardly call this an any fun. All we've been doing is cleaning up snow that will probably reappear tomorrow morning."
"I've been cleaning up the snow. All you've done is stare up at that old, boring house." Jo paused for a moment, mischief twinkling in her eyes as a thought crossed her mind. "Oh, I see. You're looking for the Laurence boy."
Vici's face burned bright pink at the accusation. She shoved her sister's shoulder, Jo only almost falling face first into the snow if she hadn't swiftly caught herself. "I am not. I just can't stop thinking about the Christmas dinner. It was such a queer thing for the boy to do. We barely know him."
The wavy haired girl took a few steps forward to stand near low hedge that separated the two estates. Her lips pursed in thought, as she silently compared the two properties to each other. Jo had also moved closer, her eyebrows knitted together— thinking over the same things her twin was. The house was gorgeous compared to the small, brown shack they called home. But it was empty and lifeless— not a place someone would call home. It looked like it drained the life out of everyone who went near it. While their home looked like it replenished their health and added years to their life span.
Before she knew, Vici was starting to march around the hedges to the Laurence household. Jo was abruptly shaken out of her thoughts, as Vici's feet crunched through the snow. "Where do you think you're going?" Jo called out to her, starting to follow after her.
Vici paused in her tracks, glancing up at the house one more time, before looking to her sister. She dropped her hands to her sides, rubbing her lips together in thought. She didn't know what she was doing.
The brunette hummed, "I'm not sure, but I can't let that poor boy suffer up there. He is shut up all alone with nothing—"
"I doubt he has nothing—"
