wind be ours.

She was a patient girl, after all he was one of the best that there was.

It had been...who knows how long...since the Crux last came to the harbor.

She hated having time to spare. For each minute she had, she lost to another minute in her mind.

She knew everything about the international shipping down to its schedule. And during those times she found herself lingering longer and longer at the docks, hoping to see that grand old warship in the horizon.

She shruged off the handful of years and kept herself busy. Kept herself away from this place in particular. But in the short distance was the sea, the saline air, and then the lands he always longed to adventure.

If only he could have taken her with him, but even she knew that that unfeasible selfishness of hers would not help either of them. So she tackled her anticipation for another day.

It had been years since the last time the Alcor came around. And then they did, with a new foreigner to which Thoma took care of.

At that time, she was very far from the dock then, eagerly watching the sunset behind the fated ship's resting sails in hopes to see the silhouette of the person she wanted to see most. But the sun was setting fast and stars were quick to chase it.

She spun a maple leaf between her fingertips when she started to lose faith.

What was she thinking? He's a wanted criminal he wouldn't dare show his face here again if he wanted to stay alive.

She had gotten her hopes up, just like she said she wouldn't to do.

She shook away her teary expectations as she heard gentle humming and crackling footsteps over the damp leaves and branches. Oh, how she could never forget. She cursed herself for not turning her head a little slower and composing herself.

But she was, in fact, not a very patient girl. And neither was he, was one of the least that there was.

In fact, the minute he could, he was off the ship escaping Juza's incessant calls.

She was kicking up those red leaves and before she knew it she was falling right into his arms with a sigh, relieving all her hushed wistfulness. At last, she was right where she had been wanting to be for the several lone and tiresome years.

He caught her graceless trip and tumbled back against a tree, to which he grunted upon impact. He would slowly slide down to the ground, his arms clasp securely around her shoulders.

No doubt his heart was clamoring, especially with the way the wind was dancing around them like it was.

Despite all his curious venturing, his heart never sang the way it did when he was with her.

If only he could bring her with him, but he could only wish.

So instead he held her closer, taking in her familiar scent and the fading sun as it sank beyond that distant city.

They talked for hours and their hands never left each other's. She'd take moments to listen to his heartbeat while he shared of sights, stories and scents she could not experience herself.

And just like that, the night would end. And they would part ways just as the moon kissed the dewy trees goodbye.

It was the Alcor that broke the dawn that morning. She hasn't seen it since.

From time to time, she sits under the shedding maples and relishes the salty breeze when she misses him.

And he is perched up on the crows nest searching the horizon time to time when he misses her.

And then they are off on their way again, just like always. But in the end, everything will be okay. One day, he'll take her to the peaks of the mountains and the depths beyond the shores like he promised. But for now, they will simply have to make do with distance between them as they watch the skies turn.

Because she is a patient girl, and he is too. They were the best ones there was.
