Monday morning and Ryan found herself standing outside of the school. She had made sure to pack her inhaler down in case she needed it and she didn't want to be embarrassed. Surely she was nervous because this is new, she doesn't know anyone or anything. But she promised herself that she would try.

After a teacher had showed her were her first class would be, Ryan stood there and waited until she noticed that other students were approaching too. It didn't take long before the English teacher to open the classroom and let the students inside. Ryan found a seat in the front next to the window, she placed her backpack right next to the chair and then focused on what the teacher was saying.

Soon the classroom was filled, including the seat next to Ryan. She glanced over to the student right next to her, strawberry blonde haired boy, green eyes, talking to his other friends.

"Ryan right? I heard there was a new student joining us, we are in the same art class" A group of people asked her, sounding kind.

"Yes that's me" she nodded. "Well, come with us and we will show you where it's at" the girl said. Interlocking her arm with Ryan, being very friendly.

Ryan was taken by surprise but she was not going to complain about that there was actually some nice people here. She learned some of the names like Max, Kenzie, Josh and Nova.

"Here it is"

After the school day had ended, Ryan was pretty content and happy. She met a couple of nice people and she learned where everything was so now she felt a little bit more safe to go there now.

She said was picked up by Maya since Carina was still at the hospital. Joel was already placed in his car seat, happily babbling to himself.

"Did you have a good day? Make any friends?" Maya asked her, starting the car to drive home.

"Actually the day wasn't that bad, I met some nice people" Ryan replied, buckling herself in.

"That's awesome" Maya smiled. She had been nervous for the teenager all day, she wanted her to have a good time and to be happy.

Once the three of them got back to the house Maya began to help Joel out of his car seat, the the little man decided that he wanted to walk on his own in to the house. While Maya began making the dinner she received a text saying that Carina would be home late tonight since she was needed in the operation room.

"Ryan, Carina won't be home until later tonight, do you think you could help me stir this for a while until I have finished changing Joel?" Maya asked the teenager.

"Oh sure, I'll be here" Ryan took over with the cooking of the food while Maya went to help the little guy.

"When do you think she'll be home?" Ryan asked once Maya had gotten back and was now carrying Joel. Maya placed the little boy down in his seat and handed him some food before answering. "I'm sure she'll be home in about an hour or so, you never know when there is surgeries" Maya replied, familiar with this situation since both of them have that kind of schedule.

"An hour" Ryan mumbled to herself, she looked at the clock, it would be eight in an hour. She shook the anxious feeling off of her before she joined Maya and Joel by the table and started eating their food.

An hour passed and Ryan was looking back and fourth at the door and he clock. Maya said that it would be an hour or so and now it had been almost half an hour. Maya had already put Joel in his crib so he could sleep so it was a surprise to see that Ryan was still sat by the kitchen table once she went downstairs again.

"Everything okay?" Maya asked gently while she packed the backpack she would take with her to work the next morning. "Yes, I'm just waiting" Ryan replied, tapping her fingers together anxiously.

"Well, what are you waiting for kiddo?" Maya was clueless on what the girl was waiting for. "You said that Carina would be home by now, and-and she's not home yet" Ryan answered.

"Oh I will never be completely sure when she gets home if she is on call. There might be a woman in labor that requires her help and assistance which means that it could be twenty minutes or three hours later than her usual time that she ends work" Maya explained. Beginning to put the pieces together why the girl was so nervous.

"Ryan, are you scared that something might happen to her? Is it reminding you of something that has happened in the past" Maya made sure to use the right words, not wanting to make the girl upset or trigger something.

"My parents didn't come home"

Maya's eyes softened and she went over to Ryan. "I'm sorry this is hard for you, is there something I can do that will help?" Maya asked, giving the girl a hug.

"Do you want to try and go to sleep?" Maya encouraged, knowing that it was school the next day and she needed some rest.

"I don't think I will be able to sleep, I'm sorry" Ryan rubbed her neck nervously, looking anywhere but Maya's eyes. She felt nothing but being a burden right now.

"I have an idea" Maya began to get their pillows down to the couch, laying multiple blankets and then encouraging Ryan to come lay with her on the couch. "We can wait here for her, together" Maya smiled down at the teenager.

"Thank you" Ryan said quietly, leaning against Maya's shoulder. She cuddled up under the blanket and after Maya had turned of the lights, it didn't take long before Ryan couldn't keep her eyes open anymore. She was slipping in and out of sleep and Maya noticed.

"Rest, I will be here" Maya reassured her.

About half an hour later, the front door was unlocked and Carina walked in. She didn't notice Maya nor the girl at first but when she did, she smiled.

"Did something happened?" Carina questioned quietly, sitting down on the edge of the couch.

Maya proceeded on telling her what Ryan had told her, about how nervous she was and stressed out. "Poor Bambina, I wish things would've been different for her, she's so young still" Carina pouted.

"I know, I feel the same way" Maya agreed, stroking Ryan's hair gently while she remained asleep.

"Well, I can carry her up to her bed and then you can go take a shower if you would like" Maya suggested, figuring that her wife was pretty tired after this long shift.

"No, let me help her get to bed, you go get ready and I will be there soon" Carina insisted, gently taking the girl from Maya and then starting to make her way to Ryan's bedroom.

It wasn't that big of a deal for Carina to carry Ryan since the girl was pretty petite for her age. She placed the teenager down on the bed and then tucked her in. "Buon notte" Carina whispered, turning the lights of and leaving the door half way open before she went to her own bedroom.

"Goodnight, my love" Maya gave her wife a kiss before turning the lights off.

"Night night" Carina went to spoon her wife, feeling content and very tired after today.
