This is a story of an ordinary little boy named Peter Parker. He was not faster or stronger or more clever than other children. His family was not rich, or powerful, or well-connected. In fact, they barely had enough to eat. Peter Parker was the luckiest boy in the entire world. He just didn't know it yet. Peter lived with his parents and his four grandparents who had been bedridden for the last twenty years. Two of them included Peter's Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Peter was working on his homework while his mother, Mary, was making dinner.
That's when Peter's father, Richard, walked in and greeted his family. He walked over to Mary to say hello to her when she asked if there was anything else she could add to the soup she was making. Cabbage soup. The only thing they could grow in their garden and eat every day. She just added more cabbage. Richard went over to Peter saying that he brought something for him. It was a bunch of deformed toothpaste caps.
Peter's father worked at the local toothpaste factory. The hours were long, and the pay was terrible yet occasionally there were unexpected surprises. Peter picked up one and saw it was exactly what he needed. He took out his model of the chocolate factory from down the street and placed the final piece on a little stick figure. It was a hat for (Y/N) Wonka and Loki Wonka and their daughters Selena and Maddie Wonka were complete. His model was complete. Peter loved the factory and was always so curious about it.
"Dad found it, just the piece I needed," Peter said
"What piece was it?" Uncle Ben asked
"A head for (Y/N) Wonka."
"Well, how wonderful," Aunt May said
"It's quite a likeness," Ben said
"You think so?" Peter asked
"Think so? I know so. I saw (Y/N) and Loki Wonka with my own two eyes. I used to work for them, you know."
"You did?"
"I did."
"He did," May said
"He did," Grandpa George said
"I love grapes," Grandma Georgina said smiling
"Of course, I was a much younger man in those days," Ben said, "(Y/N) and Loki Wonka began with a single store on Cherry Street. But the whole world wanted their candy."
Ben remembered back in the day when he worked in that little store. The business was always so busy that they had run out of most of their candy before the afternoon. He once asked (Y/N) and Loki for more Wonka bars as they were almost out of them and they were almost out of Chocolate birds. So, (Y/N) put a chocolate egg into Ben's mouth before telling him to open it again to reveal a chocolate bird tweeting and waving its wings.
"The woman and man were 2 geniuses," Ben said, "Did you know, they invented a new way of making chocolate ice cream so that it stays cold for hours without a freezer? You can even leave it lying in the sun on a hot day, and it won't go runny."
"But that's impossible," Peter said
"But (Y/N) and Loki Wonka did it. Before long, they decided to build a proper chocolate factory. The largest chocolate factory in history. Fifty times as big as any other."
Ben remembered the grand opening of the factory and the kiss he shared with Aunt May when the doors officially opened
"Uncle, don't make it gross," Peter said with an amused smile
"Tell him about the Indian prince. He'd like to hear about that," May said smiling
"You mean Prince Pondicherry?" Ben asked, "Well, Prince Pondicherry wrote a letter to Mrs and Mister Wonka and asked them to come all the way out to India and build him a colossal palace entirely out of chocolate."
It would have one hundred rooms, and everything will be made of either dark or light chocolate. True to their words, the bricks were chocolate and the cement holding them together was chocolate. All the walls and ceilings were made of chocolate as well. So were the carpets and the pictures, and the furniture. Prince Pondicherry loved his new palace. It was perfect. But (Y/N) and Loki warned him that it wouldn't last long so he had better start eating soon. But the Prince didn't want to. He wanted to live in it.
But Mrs and Mister Wonka was right, of course. Soon after this, there came a very hot day with a boiling sun. The Prince was enjoying a day with his Princess when suddenly a drop of chocolate fell onto his forehead. He brushed it off until even more drops of chocolate fell on him. All around him, the walls, the architect, everything was dripping melted chocolate. The palace quickly fell apart and the Prince and the Princess escaped unharmed but covered in chocolate. The prince sent an urgent telegram requesting a new palace, but (Y/N) and Loki Wonka were facing problems of their own.
All the other chocolate makers, you see, had grown jealous of Mrs and Mister Wonka. They began sending in spies to steal their secret recipes. Ficklegruber started making an ice cream that would never melt. Prodnose came out with a chewing gum that never lost its flavor. Then Slugworth began making candy balloons that you could blow up to incredible sizes. The thievery got so bad that one day, without warning Miss and Mister Wonka told every single one of their workers to go home. They announced that they were closing their chocolate factory forever.
"But it didn't close forever. It's open right now," Peter said
"Ah, yes. Well, sometimes when grown-ups say 'forever', they mean 'a very long time'," Mary explained
"Such as, 'I feel like I've eaten nothing but cabbage soup forever'," Grandpa George gave an example
"Now, Pops," Richard said
"The factory did close, Peter," Aunt May said
"And it seemed like it was going to be closed forever," Ben said, "Then one day we saw smoke rising from the chimneys. The factory was back in business."
"Did you get your job back?" Peter asked
"No. No one did."
"But there must be people working there."
"Think about it, Peter. Have you ever seen a single person going into that factory, or coming out of it?" Aunt May asked
"No. The gates are always closed," Peter said
"Exactly," Ben said
"But then, who's running the machines?"
"Nobody knows, Peter," Mary said
"It certainly is a mystery," Richard said
"Hasn't someone asked Mrs and Mister Wonka?" Peter asked
"Nobody sees them anymore," Ben said, "she never comes out. The only thing that comes out of that place, is the candy already packed and addressed. I'd give anything in the world just to go in one more time, and see what's become of that amazing factory."
"Well, you won't, because you can't," Grandpa George said, "no one can. It's a mystery and it will always be a mystery. That little factory of yours, Peter, is as close as any of us is ever going to get."
Mary told Peter that it was time to let his Grandparents sleep. So, he quickly finished his soup and headed upstairs to bed after hugging everyone goodnight. He said goodnight to everyone again before turning off his light and looking out the hole in his window. But indeed, that very night, the impossible had already been set in motion.
