My dreamless slumber dizzolvd into the interuptive knocking at the door. I rolled over grogily and opened my eyes remotely any sunlight. What time is it?
The note Hale had written me lied still under my arm from countless reading.
Knock. Knock.
I quickly tucked the note under the strap of my shirt and climbed out of bed. I didn't bother to probe for my slippers, though I regretted that decision the moment my bare toes hot the cool hardwood floors.
My hair, a jumbled mess lie atop my head. I endeavored my fingers through it on my way to the door, but it was no use. I couldn't afford to break a nail.
The knocking commenced again just as I opened the door. Immensely colossal green eyes visually examined me from the porch. That's when it dawned on me that my appearance when Hale's eyes danced across my body and he bit his lip in slight approval concealing the smirk that lied there. I felt my cheeks go red and looked down at my unpolished toes.
"Hey." He spoke as casual as he could as if knocking on my door at six in the morning wasn't unusual at all.
"Morning." I greeted him.
"I didn't mean to wake you but I figured I'd make up for my poor hospitality and invite you over to hang out. You look like you could use some company." Even from my periphery's view, I could see his left dimple (that I just noticed) and his beautiful teeth. His husky tone richer than Bryer's vanilla ice cream, which sounds really good right about n...
Hale reached out and lifted my chin with a soft finger. His skin color was to die for. He was absolutely beautiful.
"I don't know."
"Leslie, if you're still thinking about last night then you should know that I'm sober. Its never gotten out of hand before."
"I have things to finish up today." I mumbled. Which is a lie because I've done all my work for the upcoming week.
Hale saw past my excuse and arched a perfect brow at me. "Things like what? Read my note over and over again." His flat tone made my stomach turn.
He reached out and pulled the note from my left shoulder strap sending goose bumps up my spine as his fingers brushed my skin. A feeling of shock emerged at the spot he touched and I looked into his now black eyes. Hale looked at me expectantly as if he felt it too, then quickly looked away.
"What was that?" I asked.
"A sign." He smiled although it didn't quite reach his eyes. He handed me the note and backed away from me.
"Catch you later?" He asked with a look far distant plastered on his face.
"Uh yeah sure." I said before closing the door.
Did I do something?
A knot started to form in my stomach and I took deep breaths. The feeling of rejection lurked in my current thoughts. If i could help it, I would refuse to let anyone hurt me. But I guess a small sign could make a big difference.
