Chapter Nine: Land
The sun started to set as I plan on making my great escape. My father was in his room sleeping, since he had a night shift yesterday, and he warned me not to wake him up.
I didn't plan on it anytime soon.
As I sneak out of my home, I feel guilty for not telling Topaz where I was going, since she insisted on me telling her when I was going again. Nevertheless, I still swam up and up, hoping to see the boy over water waiting there for me.
I finally reach the shore and stare at the empty area, the only things near it being "homes" (as Aaron called it) with bright lights in them, casting shadows of figures. As I squint my eyes, I realize the figures were humans, all jumping up and down. That was a lot of people.
"Hey!" I hear, and see figure wobbling over, one teeter away from completely falling over. I realize it was a boy, but something was wrong with him. He acted half awake.
I snap out of my haze, realizing if this guy found out I had a tail instead of legs, I'd be screwed. But if I turned around and swam away, how would have seem my tail. So I do the only thing I could really think of at the time.
I stay still.
The boy comes over, his eyes not in focus, and a can in his hands.
"What's s hot chick like you doing here?" His voice is slurred, and before I can even open my mouth to answer him, he had a wild grin on his face.
"Skinny dipping?! You don't mind if I join you, right?" It wasn't a question. Once again, not a sound came from my mouth before he took of his shirt and threw it onto the sand. I start to slowly sink into the water before I see a piece of paper, folded neatly under a rock, far enough for the tides not to get it, but not enough so I can't reach it.
Before he unzips his pants, his foot slides into the water and he lets out a shriek, pulling it out of the water and shoving it into the dry sand.
"It's like negative fifty degrees in there!" He yells, grabbing his shirt and putting it back on. It wasn't that cold to me. the an again, it was probably cold to him because of the fact he was human.
The guy shakes his head rapidly and stares at me like I have a tail.
Wait.
Bad example.
"You're one crazy chick.... When you finish, come see me." He says flirtatiously, and I raise my eyebrows in amusement as he wobbles back to the crowded house.
The moment he's out of sight, I shove my hands in the dry sand, then stretching over and reaching out for the paper, pulling it from underneath the rock. When it's in my hands, I carefully unfold it, revealing messy handwriting.
Ariel (Emma),
Same place. Same time. Tomorrow. Need to show you something.
P.s: get that Topaz girl to give you some hocus pocus stuff so you can walk.
The one and only,
Prince Aaron. My heart flutters while reading the note, ignoring the fact he called me Ariel (which he did practically all the time.).
Knowing it was getting late, I carefully, place the paper back under the rock, and swim back down, going to my home, where I know that I'm safe.
But did that make it unsafe to be near Aaron?
FILLER ALERT
