••5 more days until the party••

(I'm doing the rest of this in first person idc)

No matter how many times I protested, I was being forced to go to Evan's birthday party in a few days. It's not like I didn't want to celebrate his birthday, I just didn't want to get involved with whatever Michael had planned now. Every time Evan had a birthday has a birthday, Michael would force me into whatever prank he had planned for that year. Each year, they got worse and worse. I don't know how bad it could be if it was at dad's restaurant, but I didn't want to find out.

I had already tried to get dad to let me stay home, but mom wouldn't let him. The only thing that did was get me grounded for a few days.

I hadn't noticed I had been zoned out until I felt someone hit me on the arm.

"Elizabeth? Hello?" Charlie said, waving her hands in front of my face.

"Sorry," I said. She looked at me quizically.

"What are you thinking about?" she asked.

"Nothing," I lied. Just as she was about to ask something else, the final bell rang. I got up from my seat hurriedly and went to my bus. Sighing, I leaned my head on the bus window. I felt someone sit next to me, and I didn't have to look to know it was Michael.

"You look dumb, and I haven't even looked at you yet," I said.

"Well hi to you too, asshole," he responded. I rolled my eyes and wished the bus would bring us home faster.

"So," he said after a while. "I was thinking that for Evan's birthday, we-"

"We are not doing anything. I'm not doing this with you," I said, cutting him off. I wasn't going to let him talk me into pranking Evan this year. It was his 10th birthday, and I wasn't going to ruin it for him.

"What if I pay you?" he asked. I responded by flipping him off.

"What's your problem, Elizabitch?"

I punched him as hard as I could in the shoulder.

When we got home, I went straight to my room. I sat down at my desk and rubbed my forehead. I didn't want to hear anything else Michael was going to say. Unfortunately for me, my door didn't lock correctly. He walked in a few minutes later, plopping himself on my bed.

"What do you want?" I asked, not even caring for a response. I just wanted him to get out of my room.

"Oh, nothing," he said, stalling. I threw one of my books at him. It hit him in the face, making me smile.

"Before you so rudely attacked me," he continued, "I just wanted to say that if you don't help me this year, you have to do my chores for a month."

I shrugged my shoulders and pulled out my notebook. I began drawing as he thought of something else to say.

"If that's all you wanted to say, you can leave," I said. He let out a sigh of frustration before leaving my room.

Later that night, my mom came into my room as I was doing my homework.

"What did you say to Michael? He looks angry," she said, sitting on my bed next to me.

I sighed and put my homework down. "He's mad that I won't help him prank Evan for his birthday," I said. "I don't want to."

"I could talk to him if you want," mom said, hugging me. After telling me goodnight, she left my room, closing the door behind her.

I knew her talking to Michael wouldn't change his mind. Sighing, I got ready for bed.
