Rachael and I are walking through the fair. She is grinning so widely that I think my heart will explode. We make our way through the fair passing games until we find one that looks fun.
"𝘖𝘩 𝘮𝘺 𝘨𝘰𝘥!"
I turn to her so fast a sharp pain shoots up my neck. I groan and begin to bring my hand up towards where it burns but Rachael beats me to it and places her hand on my neck.
"𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺?!" 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘶𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺.
Or at least I think that's what she said because I am only focused on the warmth of her palm against my skin. I manage to snap out of it before the silence becomes awkward.
"𝘼𝙧𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙤𝙠𝙖𝙮? 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙙 𝙤𝙝 𝙢𝙮 𝙜𝙤𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄 𝙜𝙤𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙙. 𝘼𝙧𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙩? 𝘿𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙥? 𝙃𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙚? 𝘿𝙞𝙙 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙗𝙤𝙙𝙮 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙧𝙪𝙙𝙚? 𝙄 𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙞𝙛 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡-"
She grabs my face in her hands and looks me in my eyes.
"𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘺/𝘯. 𝘕𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘱. 𝘕𝘰𝘸, 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘠𝘖𝘜 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺?"
I let out a breath as I smile at her and nod.
"𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵," 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘴, 𝘮𝘪𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦.
She removes her hands from my face and 𝚖𝚢 𝚑𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚝 𝚊𝚌𝚑𝚎𝚜 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚖𝚘𝚛𝚎.
"𝙎𝙤, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙤 𝙤𝙝 𝙢𝙮 𝙜𝙤𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙚𝙭𝙘𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙠?"
Her smile falters and her cheeks go red. Her eyes widen as she tries to speak, but her words betray her.
"𝘐- 𝘸𝘩𝘢- 𝘐 𝘶𝘩- 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘐 𝘶𝘩- 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭- 𝘐-"
Her eyes are no longer on mine. I follow her eyes and my eyes land on-
"𝘼...𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙧?"
I stand there with my head tilted slightly staring at it. A few feet away is a stall and hanging up on the prize rack is a huge, pink teddy bear. Now that I think about it, her "oh my god" didn't sound very frightened or uneasy. I look back at her and she looks embarrassed. I giggle as I wrap my arms around her and pull her into a hug. She instantly wraps her arms around me and lets out a long breath.
"𝘐'𝘮 𝘴𝘰 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘺/𝘯!!! 𝘐'𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘱-"
She stops for a second and then continues.
"𝘐𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘐 𝘴𝘢𝘸 𝘢 𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘵𝘦𝘥𝘥𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘤𝘶𝘵𝘦..."
I may be wrong but, I think she paused because she didn't want to insult the bear. I know it's so cliché, but I have to win her this bear. I let go of her and walk up to the stall. A man appears out of no where and he seems familiar but I don't question it. I hand him some money and before I even realise, he is handing me the bear and telling me I won. Rachael squeals with excitement as I give her the bear. She kisses me on the cheek as she takes it.
"𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘐'𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘳...𝘌𝘭𝘭𝘢"
Oh my god she named the bear. Oh my god she called it a she. Oh my god she- but my thought vanishes as I watch Rachael place a kiss on the bears nose. My heart is goo. I go to reach out for her when everything freezes.
