When Luna was dressed in some sweats and a tank top, she came downstairs to join her aunt and her brother for dinner. The second her foot hit the top step she was bombarded with several delicious smells. Her mouth instantly watered so she rushed down to the kitchen to see what the source was.

Steak with rice and gravy and some vegetables waited for her on the island looking delectable.

She scooped up the plate and joined her brother and aunt at the table.

Evie entertained the kids at the table with stories about all the different business trips she'd been on.

"Egypt is beautiful, it's hot but if you dress right it's not that bad." she smiled as she took a sip of her water.

"Have you ever been to Spain? I've always wanted to go and see a real soccer game!" Tyler gushed.

"You know I was there on business a couple years ago but only for a day. I didn't get to sightsee sooo, I think it would be a perfect little family trip."

He cheered and stood up to do some quick soccer moves.

Evie laughed, "Oh boy, sit down and finish your food."

He chuckled but sat down to finish his plate.

"Keep those grades up and we can go wherever you wanna go."

Luna watched them laugh and talk and hoped that she wasn't just saying it. She did admire the fact that she was treating him like she was of blood relation.

When dinner was done they washed up the dishes and Evie left to go back to her rental home.

Luna went to bed full and happy to have a family moment, even if her mother wasn't involved.

When she took her walk to school in the morning, she scanned the crowds for Matt. It wasn't the first time that he'd missed school. Sometimes out of nowhere he would call in sick for a couple days then show up like he never missed a day.

Her eyes finally spotted him and she wasted no time going right over to him. She was horrified to see a cut on his lip.

"What happened?" Her hands lingered over the wound.

He rubbed the mark as if he didn't know it was there. "Oh this? I fell practicing in the backyard last night."

"But I thought you said you were pooping your guts out?"

He rolled his eyes at her refusal to just say the word shit. "I was in the mornin but I felt better later. I'm fine Lu."

"Alright let's go before we're late. Sam's gonna kill you when she sees your lip." Luna pointed out.

He laughed and fell in step with her into the classroom. Sam, Mavis and Tristan sat in their usual cluster of seats. Matt laid eyes on Mavis and smiled wider than Luna had ever seen him smile. Sam and her caught each other's eyes and nodded slightly, his busted lip forgotten.

Matt was stock on the outside but he was a big ole bleeding heart on the inside. He was at his best when he was with someone else and they could see the way he looked at Mavis.

Sam immediately set to work, "Matt, this is Mavis. She's new here."

He stuck out his large hand for her to shake. "Nice to meet you."

She smiled and took it. "You too."

The chemistry was apparent from that single interaction alone.

By the time the lunch rolled around they were attached to each other deep in their own conversation. Mavis informed him about their pending trip to the movies. "You wanna come with me? Us, I mean when I say me? Us. Us."
