Manhattan, New York
United StatesAya's eyes widened as she stared at the pen in her slightly trembling hands, staring at the two purple lines, confirming she was not imagining the second one.
Blinking, she rubbed her right eye before checking once again.
She almost forgot to breathe; many emotions and foreign feelings taking birth and swirling in her body. Keeping the pen near the sink, she stared at her reflection in the mirror. Chestnut brown hair parted from the side and body clad in a simple white floral frock, she slowly placed her hand on her stomach, gently and slowly caressing it as if trying to feel the bundle of joy which she had just got to know was growing inside her for the last three weeks.
“I am... I am pregnant”, she whispered to herself as she lifted her gaze and her eyes met with her reflection's eyes.
She had felt all the air was knocked out of her.
This girl in the mirror, herself, Aya Park, was pregnant. She had a child inside her. She had a life inside her. She had a living being inside her.
“My baby. My child”, She whispered before a smile broke on her face.
Glancing at her smiling reflection, she placed a hand on her chest; an innocent feeling of pride of carrying another life inside her, brewing in her.
“Baby, are you done?”, another voice startled her, reminding her that her boyfriend was outside in his room, waiting for her to come out and announce the results. He was the father. He was the one who had brought the pregnancy kit.
A month ago, she had attended a party at his house for which she had to beg her parents to let her go and enjoy. She had not told them about her boyfriend for they were not the coolest parents on Earth. She never understood their perspective. What was wrong with dating? She was sixteen. She was old enough. Why were they restricting her from enjoying her life? This was enjoyment, right? This was how she was supposed to be at the age of sixteen, right? There was nothing wrong in dating someone before turning twenty as her parents wanted her to, right? She was supposed to be indulged in a relationship like most of the teenagers her age, right? She and her boyfriend were mature enough to date, right? To her, everything seemed right but soon she will realise how big of a mistake she had made after getting deviated from her path. She will face the consequences of going the wrong way at this age when she should have been securing her future and buckling up for all that her school and college had to offer.
“Yeah. I am coming out, Jack”, she answered back; her voice sounding more cheerful which soothed Jack's anxiety to a great extent. The results were definitely negative that was why she sounded so postive.
As the door of the bathroom opened and Aya walked out with a bright smile on her lips, Jack stopped shaking his leg which he had been doing out of stress he had gained since the day Aya had told him about symptoms such as throwing up and craving for weird foods after they had their first ever intimate session at the party after getting drunk.
