Tokyo
JapanClosing his eyes, Jay inhaled deeply, the phenyl-like smell entering his nostrils, an evidence of the place he was in.
Sitting in the hallway in the iron chair, shaking his leg out of anxiety, he stared at the ceiling, the bright flash from recessed lights installed in it entering his retina.
People and hospital staff seemed to walk around normally in the white alleys of the hospital, not caring about the loud screams from the delivery room, each one wrenching Jay's heart.
"It's okay, Jay. Aya is a strong girl. She will bring the baby in the world safely. It's okay", he mumbled to himself, assuring his heart though he felt like crying at the moment, having not experienced the delivery of a woman closer to him before.
Jay closed his eyes, burying face in his palms waiting for another scream after the previous one had died down but it never came.
Silent.
It all became silent before a shrill cry tore through the thick walls of the room, making their way to Jay's ears.
He felt his heart stop as he forgot to breathe for a few seconds. His head shot up, eyes wide and mouth slightly ajar as he stared at the door of the room, making sure he was not hearing things and it was a cry, a real cry... of a baby, of his younger sister's baby.
Rooted to his spot, he didn't dare move a muscle, scared that if he did then it might turn out to be a dream and the new life may vanish.
He blinked his eyes, being pulled out of his trance only when the door opened and a female doctor walked out with a wide smile on her face, after almost twenty minutes. The after-birth processes probably took them some time.
"Mister Jay"
"Huh? Huh? Yeah?", He snapped his head towards her, consciousness slowly creeping inside his body as he came back to his senses.
"Congratulations. Your sister has been blessed with a baby girl"
Those words rang in his ears as he stared at the doctor, feeling his heart hammering so loud that he was afraid the doctor could hear it.
"Can I?... Can I see her?", He spoke, voice hushing out in a whisper, relief washing over his body when the doctor nodded.
"Thank you, Ma'am. Thank you so much"
"It's my job, Sir"
Smiling he nodded as the doctor returned the gesture before walking away, leaving the man all by himself who took a deep breath before slowly entering the room, his heartrate increasing with each step.
His sister sitting on the bed with a bundle of towels in her arms came to his sight. Her disheveled hair, pale complexion and slightly chapped lips were not a bother at all as Jay had his eyes pinned on the towels in her arms.
