In the desolate city walked two teens, Achilles and Aurora. Both from the same town with kindred spirits. They walked for miles finding safety, but after the recent fallout, there seemed to be no hope. Dust blew around rapidly due to the violent winds. The recent bomb caused a snow that lightly dusted the buildings and ground and an immeasurable cloud that seemed to forever cover the sun. Aurora felt her lungs freeze and burn as she tried to breathe against the harsh winds. She looked to her friend sorrowfully, wishing their suffering would end. Though the war had ended due to multiple governments collapsing, the destruction had been done. The radiation made it hard to breathe. It made it hard to see. It even made it hard to talk and walk. It made it hard to live. The world was ending, yet here they were, still alive, hanging on by a thread.

Aurora fell, Achilles catching her. He looked at his sickly friend and sighed. He picked her up. The teen's body had become frail from the sickness. He was basically watching her slowly decompose from the inside out. Watching her rot day by day became tiring to the young man. He just wanted to keep moving to find shelter and keep Aurora safe. She just wanted to sit and die and let Achilles go off on his own. She told him that before she was affected by the radiation, before the sickness had touched her. He was disgusted by the idea. He loved her and didn't want to let her go. He was going to find a safe place and save her. Time keeps ticking though and it was of the essence. They needed to find help and fast. The next bomb was predicted to hit in the next few days. This meant certain death to the teens who were moving slowly by foot. Achilles had Aurora check his watch, the time was 16:27. His eyes widened, from Borden to Louisville it took them 2 days. They were losing daylight. Achilles began to run with the girl in his arms.

His thoughts were running wild. He couldn't keep his mind off the fact they were behind. Very behind. Multiple military bases were filled to the brim and few were offering help, one of those few being Fort Knox. From their hometown of Borden, Fort Knox was an hour away. Thanks to the teens being too young and without parents, they had to travel by foot which took 18 hours to complete. They stopped in Louisville to find some food and medicine. As expected they didn't find much aside from scraps in the back of deserted supermarkets. They also stopped in Louisville as they heard through the grapevine that a small caravan was there, taking people to Fort Knox and a few other military bases. When they got there though, the caravan was destroyed and was looted. They stopped in other cities and small towns, but all ended in disaster. Louisville was just the cherry on top for the teens.

Achilles continued to run throughout the day and soon to be night. He was tired, but he was going to get her to safety, he could care less about himself. The cold was quickly chipping away at him. He felt his blood draw back from his fingertips and felt his face growing numb. Unbeknownst to him, his skin was beginning to turn light blue, almost grey. The radioactive snow began to pour down harder with every passing minute. It was hard for the teens to see more than a foot in front of them. Achilles still ran, not stopping when it became hard to do so.

The night was silent. Only the sinuous winds and Achilles footsteps were heard. Aurora wanted Achilles to stop, to rest for the night. She knew the bitter cold was getting to him and that he'd end up like her if he stayed out, surrounded by the radiation, for too long. She grabbed his shirt a bit and pulled on it, getting him to look down at her. "Please stop, we need to rest soon or we'll be dead." Achilles was barely able to see her through the blinding snow fall, but he knew she was worried and that was the last thing he wanted from her. He sighed, he didn't want to quit now, but he had no choice. He squinted his eyes trying to see through the blaze of white and faintly saw a figure. His eyes widened and he smiled, "Hey! Over here! Help us!" He began to trudge through the snow, trying to get to the mysterious figure. Maybe they could help the teens and lead them to Fort Knox. Aurora began to grow suspicious of the figure that her beloved friend was following. This figure had led them out of the main city and began to lead them down a railroad. Next thing she knew, they were in the woods on the railroad, still following that figure. Achilles continued to follow the ghostly figure until he reached a building on a hill. He put Aurora down, still holding her up, and touched the building, looking for a door. He finally found the door and pushed it open.
