Life is a scary thing. One minute you're happy and the next moment you feel like you're in hell. Happiness was something that was taken away from me when I was only 14. The day those heathens arrived.
Who would've thought? A normal sunny day at the park slowly turned chaotic. I remember the spacecraft that hovered over us, Boston to be specific. It was large, so big that it obscured the entire city of sunlight. "What the hell is that," my Dad said staring at the craft in dismay. He struggled to get a decent glance at the spacecraft because it blocked out the light. I knew he was stunned just from the tone of his voice. To be fair anyone would be. I stared at the spacecraft and felt a slight chill run down my spine. Everyone around us was panicking, some people even raised their phones to try and take pictures. "I don't know what it is but it's not good, let's go, honey, "My Mom said hastily while rushing my Dad to get to the car.
"Dee, come on. I don't know what the hell that is but I'm sure we're not gonna be safe outside" Her voice snapped me out of the trance I was in. "C'mon Gunter boy, let's go," I said tugging my dog's collar. Oddly enough I wasn't scared of the spacecraft, rather I was mad as hell. My parents finally made time for me from their busy schedules and took me to the park. My mom was a pathologist and my dad was a personal financial advisor. We were pretty well off and lived well. I never walked out of a shop not getting what I wanted. I know I sound like a spoiled brat but in my defence, all they ever did was shove money down my throat.
Their presence in my life felt almost non-existent. I remember them being there and then suddenly they weren't. We weren't always well off, my parents were immigrants and they worked their asses off to get where they were. All I remember is that the higher they climbed the ladder of success the lonelier I became. It wasn't the same. We were moving into bigger houses with bigger pools but the only voice that I remembered was the echo of my voice in those empty halls.
"Sweetheart I don't think you should go to school tomorrow, not until that THING in the sky goes away" I was happy that I could finally skip school. The only time I was allowed to skip was if I was deadly ill. Deadly.
"And what about you guys, are you gonna stay in?" I asked inquisitively " I guess we'll have to, well I know I'm not driving around with that thing around"
My father chirped in, "I'm sure it's gonna go away in due time. But you know what Dee, isn't it kinda cool?"
My mom laughed at his remark "Really honey, cool?"
My dad and I had sci-fi Fridays every once a month, that was his way of making up for the lack of his presence in my life. "Hell yeah, it is. Wonder if there are super ugly looking three-fingered aliens on it" I said jokingly
"Yeah the type to eat ya' brains out, arrrrgggghhh"
The entire car burst out in laughter. Except for Gunter, he was oddly still while we drove home. Weird.
Obviously, the thought that the spacecraft was from outer space crossed our minds but we were all pretty sure it was just one of Elona Muskers' space crafts. She owns the biggest space federation in the world and has even managed to take us beyond Mars. She's a pretty ambitious woman and she's cool but she needs to chill out."You guys are too silly. That Elona woman is definitely crazy, I mean that thing is humongous and how the hell did it appear out of nowhere? The science behind it all makes no sense. All that being said, I guess we could thank her for the free days off" My mom ranted as we entered the gated community. We lived in a pretty well-off place. The houses were spaced quite far apart and they had somewhat high walls with modern Korean architecture. I mean the guy who built this place was a pretty well known Korean-American architect, one of the best in the country. This community was one of the five he built in the country. I appreciated the architecture, it was very different from what you would see in other gated communities or normal neighbourhoods.
"Alrighty let's go inside, I guess we'll have dinner at 2 p.m today seeing how dark it is outside" My dad joked. I mean it made sense, it was really dark, and it looked like it was 9 or 10 p.m.
We went inside and my mom set the house on lockdown mode since she was paranoid. All the blinds automatically shut and the doors locked themselves. The a.c switched on and cooled us down, it helped with the nerves.
My dad being a dad turned on the news and what we saw shocked us.
The control pad my mom had in her hand shattered on the floor and the screen cracked. Her face grew pale despite the fact her skin had a naturally rich dark complexion.
My dad's knees gave out and he fell to the sofa. I just stood there in shock. Just shaken.
My brain was scrambled from whatever I thought I was seeing.
Was this the end of the world? This is the first chapter😭✨
