While I was getting ready I have come to learn some things about Gabriella and her two assistants. Although she only shared what she wanted me to know, I figured that she was not that bad of a person and she was just playing the role given to her. In the reformed society, there were no poor people. Although there was a structured hierarchy, everyone had a role to play. No one lacked anything and everyone had more than enough to live in comfort.
She described the new world as completely different compared to the old one. People did not feel the need to steal and hurt others. She said that although humans could not occupy positions of royalty or significant importance, they owned different franchises and businesses. In a way, we could contribute to the enhancement of the new society. No profession was looked down upon, in fact in the new world order, artistic people were more appreciated than those who worked collar jobs in the past.
I would be a liar if I said that people living comfortably and free from capitalism did not impress me, however, that did not change the fact that we were still seen as less than. We are all still in an undeniable leash and the fact that we did not have free will attested to that. How different is this new world from the old one? We may not be slaves to our duties and various societal pressures but we were still controlled by a minority. Just like how the rich ruled everyone they stared at from their skyscrapers, just like how we were all slaves to money and power, what truly is the difference?
We are walking on eggshells. I wondered what amount of defiance would be enough to push them to their limits and reveal their true colours once more. How long would it take or what would it take for this so-called perfect society to collapse? That was something I knew we were bound to find out one way or the other.
"Perfecta! There you go, you finally look like a woman worthy of a supreme general" Gabriella exclaimed. I was so oblivious that I did not notice my sudden transformation. After exfoliating, scrubbing, messaging, perfuming, hair therapy, and a very painful wax session I was finally done. She put her hands on either sides of my shoulders and spun me to face a gigantic mirror. She stood behind me displaying a genuine wide smile. "Wow," I silently let out while I admired myself. "Wow indeed, it was not easy turning you into cinderella sweetheart, especially because we were working in a short space of time" The assistant added while she sat crossed leg on a chair.
I did not think that I would ever look like this again, I noticed how much
I had grown into my features. The mirror appeared as if it were reflecting my mother. The resemblance between us was undeniable, I truly am my mother's daughter. They put me in a long dark red chiffon dress that had a high slit. My chest was slightly exposed by the wide V neckline with a drape on the right side of my arm. The transparent drape had a ridiculous amount of very tiny diamonds at the end of it, "Every dress in this walk-in wardrobe would be worth at least a million in the old world" Gabriella said as she observed the dress in the mirror in front of us. "What? A million?" I asked while attempting to pick up the drape, it started making sense why it felt slightly heavy.
"Yes, and the one you are wearing now is probably one of the most expensive ones here. The diamonds at the end of the dress are from the Queen's crown, the Kohinoor diamond. The dressmakers broke it into smaller fragments to put onto this dress. It was made for whoever the supreme general would choose, luckily it fits you like a glove " The assistant explained while looking at my dress with envy "I'm so jealous, what were the odds that you would be chosen? You have no idea how many women would wish to have what you have. The general has never taken interest in a human female, you might be here to stay." The assistant spoke as she playfully grabbed my arm "Well I'm happy we're friends. You know, since we are on good terms now, when you see the supreme general why don't you put in a word for house Valeur?"
