The sitting room was silent, par the occasional turning of a page. It was evening and the sun filtered through the window, bathing the room in a violent orange square that reached Ed's toes. He and Shai were snuggled up on the sofa, cocooned in a soft blanket. Shai had a book in her lap and both were happily silent in each other's company.
They had been together for three months. It was a simple relationship, full of stolen kisses and whispered goodnights.
After Shai and Ed had met for coffee in Soho the two became inseparable, minus the photoshoots, interviews and concerts which Ed attended.
Shai worked a nine to five job in a publishing house on brick lane; she loved her job and ate words on pages like supper. Although Ed wasn't particularly fond of books himself, more into comics and song writing, they often found themselves bantering about their shared love for the written word. Shai had even given him help on several of his song ideas.
Their two flats were shared, sometimes stayed in and sometimes not- no sex involved, yet- especially on Sunday's, where the two would make Chai tea and snuggle up to watch Game of Thrones together. Their shared love of the show only boosted a shared affection for one another; both had become dependent on the satisfaction that being together had prompted.
Shai let out a snort as she reached a hilarious moment in her book and Ed grinned down at her. Her hair was messy and she wore his hoodie; never in his life had Ed enjoyed being as lazy as they had been that day. The Chinese food cartons littered the floor from their lunch and the smell of burnt toast still wafted over the couple when a breeze raced through the kitchen. Yet, Ed was blissfully happy. He loved her. It was so obvious when revealed that Ed was surprised he hadn't considered the option to begin with. He was completely in love with her.
'Shai' He whispered into the curled hair above her ear. She mumbled and tilted her head up in order to catch his eyes. 'I love you' he whispered, his heart racing. He was nervous, fuck he was nervous, but he did love her. And, she was still with him, as she had been for months. A grin stretched lazily across her face and she turned back to her book. 'I know.'
All was silent for a while and he rolled his eyes. His hands roamed her sides and tickled the breath out of her, 'anything else?' Now that she was facing him he could see the pink splattered across her cheeks, 'No.' He smirked and lightly trailed a finger from her brow to her throat, 'Are you sure?'
She kissed him quickly, a stolen peck that brushed their lips but nothing more. 'Of course I love you, plonker.'
They grinned at each other and kissed once more, then returned to their silent stupor with Ed's arms around Shai's waist, pulling her as close to him as possible.
