"This is an announcement from your Captain, we are unsure as to the situation below decks but we need everyone to get up from wherever you are and head to the main deck. And immediate evacuation is taking place, all women and children go first. All of you need to remain in a calm and orderly manner. Thank you."
Calm and orderly. Not one bit. A massive groan released from the hull of the ship, screams of echoing yelling rebounding into everyone's ears, anxiety clouding everyone's vision. Two of the crew members on deck, loaded up their guns and stood straight, a blank screen with no visible life.
"Excuse me," a man tapped the crew member's shoulder, but blatantly ignored. "It's my wife, she disappeared after dinner and I haven't seen her since."
The man sniggered, looking down upon him. "It's the irony isn't it,"
"What irony?"
"Just keep moving."Shoving his shoulder with sheer malevolence, he was forced to clutch the bannister for support. His shoulder twisted to help him look back, watching as the crewmate returned to his whitewashed face.
"This is your captain speaking again, I want all men to exit this boat in an orderly fashion. You will have noticed by now that wives have disappeared for many hours. I don't want you to worry, but you must obey all directions in order to keep them alive. Move to the lifeboats and exit toward the closest door, do not delay in moving hastily. Be mindful of others. This is your captain, good luck."Where's my wife? Where's my girlfriend? Where's my mother? All comments valid except for the one he didn't want to answer. How can I find her?
Ignoring all direction he pushed his way through everyone, banging against the door of the where the Captain.
"Answer me!" He shouted, and the door swung open to reveal a dishevelled and dissatisfied leader.
"I thought I told you to get to the lifeboats?"
"I want to know where she is, where is my wife?"
Inhaling a weighted response, it's poured out into his ears in torrents of trial filled words. "She's being held in the cargo deck. We've been warned already that if anyone goes down there, any man, then a woman will be shot every minute until they get what they want."
Across the table, his radio began fizzing into oblivion.
"Come in Captain, do you read me?"
Picking up the radio with hands half shaken from Dutch courage, he replied. "Yes, I can hear you,"
"The leader wants the money now, and if he doesn't, he's going to begin the execution,"
Snatching the radio from his hand, he pressed the button that allowed him to speak.
"I want to say goodbye to my wife, please," he pleaded. Small discussions were made and they passed him over.
"You can come down," the leader mocked, scorning him with his tone. After making his way down the many pathways, he got to the cargo deck. The cupboard adjacent was loaded with weapons , taking one of the guns in his hand, he entered the room. Steadily, but shakily his hand pushed the cold handle downward widening the opening to a lifeless room.
"You have five seconds,"
His wife ran across the room, wrapping her arms around him.
"I know I made a vow to be with you till death do us part... I'm sorry I have to go,"
"It's not you're fault... it's not your fault,
"You know I love you, tell me that you feel my love,"
"I do, I love you too.
"The time we've had together, it's the best thing,"
"But some things change and we can't stop it..." stroking her hair drenched in tears behind her ears. "... we will crawl our way back to each other."
"Sometimes, things change, but you need to know I love you. I might be losing everything today, and it's you, just try and stay alive. For me, for you, for us."
