Y/n was waiting to be called up for sorting day. She sighed as name after name was being called. She stood for what felt like forever until she was called up.

She walked up to the podium and sat down, feeling everyone's eyes staring into her. The Sorting Hat sat for at least a minute, leaving the room incredibly silent, small whispers being heard from the crowd.

The voices quickly hushed each other when the Sorting Hat spoke up.

"Gryffindor!" it announced. Y/n quickly got up and rushed to the Gryffindor table.

After she sat down the next name that was brought up grabbed Y/n's attention.

"Tom Riddle!" A black haired boy walked up to the podium and sat down. When she looked closer to him she noticed how his hair was super curly and his tie that was messed up along with how he fidgeted with his hands and-

Oh god. Y/n felt his eyes stare into her soul as they locked eye contact. She felt like she couldn't move. She only broke eye contact when his house was called.

"Slytherin!" The hat called. Tom stood up and walked to the Slytherin table, fixing his tie on the way there.

Y/n went to her dorm, still thinking about that random kid.

---

Well, that was 4 years ago. 4 painful, horrible years ago. Ever since she saw that boy, he's been a pain. Constantly competing with her, mocking her, he's a real dick. But, somehow, she doesn't hate it completely... she doesn't want to admit it to herself, but she actually likes it.

No! No, she doesn't. She hates Tom and he hates her, that'll never change. Anyway, that doesn't matter right now. Her school supply list is coming soon and she can't wait to see if she was chosen to be a prefect!

Y/n woke up early that morning. She constantly looked out the window, searching the sky for any sight of an owl. It felt like she was waiting for hours when she saw an owl. It flew through her window and dropped the envelope.

Y/n instantly grabbed it. She was so excited! She opened it very carefully and took a deep breath. She hesitantly opened the envelope and pulled out her list, okay, can worry about that later. Then she saw a badge, a perfect badge. She screamed, and her parents came rushing in.

"Mom, dad! I'm a prefect!"

---

Tom got up to the sound of something hitting his window. He looked up at it and saw... An owl? Oh god an owl hit his window. He opened it and saw it had a letter in its talons.

When he opened the letter he saw something he felt should've come sooner. It was a prefect badge.
