I gasp as I see his Mark. It's a beautiful design, black with spirals and what looks to be like a bow and arrow with a sun and tree. I realize that I am staring and blush.
"Um... Hi," I say quickly, to ease the awkwardness. He is staring at me in wonder and it's a little strange. I guess that's the way I was looking at him.
He reaches out with his hand and stares intently on my Mark. I can see his hand slowly reaching for my neck and it's as if time has started to slow down. The hand is getting closer as I reach out and grab his wrist.
I twist and he yelps as I pull him closer, kick him in the groin. As I do that, I do a little somersault and he gets flipped and lands on his back. My heavy boot is on his chest as I pin him, the whole time still holding his wrist. I'm not even sweating.
He is panting hard. The first thing I ever hear from the only other Marked One I have met so far is said in that moment.
"Hi there, girly. I'm guessing you like your territory and space. Probably not the best idea to be invading another Marked One's home. Gods though, I just saved you from falling flat on your face! Or maybe my looks were so charming that you attacked me... So which one is it?" He says as he starts to laugh.
I look at him in complete fascination. I knew guys were sometimes pretty stupid and stuck up, but this? What did I do? Is he laughing at me? Maybe I should just knock him out and pack my stuff and leave this town. I was already thinking about doing it anyways.
"Hey kid? Ya, can you be a dear and GET OFF ME!" He yells as he tries to get up.
I push my boot down harder and lean in. "Why? You having trouble getting up, little boy?"
He smirks as he whispers, "No, I'm enjoying the view, but my wrist hurts, no thanks to some idiot who decided to attack me in a public place!" He hissed the last part and I realize he is right.
Gods know what the Glamour made it look like what we are doing! I slowly raise my boot off him, not sure what he will do. If he were to attack me, I would be ready. I had my hand on my dagger as I watched him stand up and shake himself off.
He smirks when he catches me looking. "What are you staring at, girly?" He asks with complete seriousness.
"My name is not 'Girly'," I tell him. I'm starting to get a bit annoyed with his careless smile and reckless behaviour. He is SOOOOO lucky I haven't killed him yet.
"Oh really? Gods, I'm sorry. I honestly thought that was your name!" There's so much sarcasm in his voice, I'm surprised he's not laughing at his own joke again.
"Yes really. My name is Min, if you must know," I say as I hold my chin up high, trying to show him that he isn't bothering me but deep down inside me I just want him out of here.
"The name is Hunter, dear lady," he says with a elegant tip of his head, pretending to have a hat. Who the heck even does that?
"Nice to meet you. What brings you to this town?" My voice is impatient and he smiles.
"Down to business already? Alright darling. I've been tracking a Nest of Demons around the area. I was checking out the library to see how much Mortals have caught on to our world."
"Any sightings of them in this town?" This worries me, as I haven't seen or heard anything about this so called Nest of Demons. "How many are there?"
"Maybe six or seven. Haven't seen them in town yet. They are probably lurking on the town edge, waiting for this storm to hit full-on."
I think about what has just been told to me. If Demons have made it close to town and I haven't picked up any trails, there is a serious problem. I think of an idea, but I don't like it. I tell him anyways.
"We need to work together. They have to die."
He stares at me. I stare back. He nods and his hair falls into his face. We do not blink.
We have a truce.
We will not kill each other.
Not yet.
