Chapter Five: Meet and Greet

When Marvel awoke the next morning, he found that he had managed to stay on the bed the whole night and hadn't fallen off in shock. He really was disappointed in himself and would do anything to go back in time and change what he had done to Lucy. It was wrong and he should have never dared to do something like that; he really was bad. In fact he even classed himself worse than Cato now and that was saying something.

But what made him feel even worse was the fact that Lucy blamed herself and not him. He would prefer it if Lucy flipped out at him and hit him and yelled at him and...but that wasn't like her. Marvel often wondered if she was too soft sometimes...

Lucy stirred slightly in her slumber, it made Marvel flinch suddenly because he feared she was having bad dreams about him. He deserved to feel guilty about her having nightmares. He deserved to suffer after what he had done, nobody else was responsible for his actions but him. Nobody had told him to strangle Lucy...he just had. Because he was a heartless boy who never in a million years deserved Lucy, she was too precious for him.

He held her tightly as she slept, he felt like holding her was the best option after what he had done. She deserved to be protected, she deserved to be protected by someone that wasn't him. Someone much better than him...he'd always thought that Lucy deserved a man that would look after her and not some monster that had tried to kill her. She deserved someone far better than him, someone who wasn't a mucked up psycho from the Hunger Games.

Marvel had always thought that Lucy deserved someone special. He could remember when they were both younger and just merely friends and Marvel had thought about all the wonderful oppurtunities ahead of her. How when she grew up she'd have men falling at her feet because she was the Mayor's daughter. She'd marry one of them and they'd love her dearly, she would even raise children and have a good life. Marvel might have gone in the Hunger Games alone then and might of won...or died. But it wouldn't matter because Lucy would be happy.

But it was the Hunger Games in which had wrecked Lucy's future. It was laid out ahead of her like a blank map just waiting to be filled with exciting discoveries. But the map had been torn to shreds and a new one had taken it's place, all written out for her and no path of freedom. The new map showed her she was destined to be with Marvel because he had confessed his love in a moment of madness. Marvel had helped destroy her future and he hadn't done it intentionally.

Who would have thought that Marvel would have been the man that would be there in her future? The man that she would probably marry and raise a family with? Marvel didn't want to think about that because he didn't want to be the man in her future, he just wanted to be her best friend again even though he loved her. It was too risky to be the one that would be her lover...or could he be just temporary?

Perhaps after the Victory tour he could announce to Lucy she didn't need him at all and she could find a man herself that she truly loved. The cameras wouldn't be following them then so Lucy would finally get her freedom back, the one in which she deserved. She didn't need him! She didn't need a boy who had just confessed his love to her! She could do better than that!

"But I love you..." Marvel whispered to Lucy who was still fast asleep. "I couldn't bear to see you hurt by someone else..."

That was the truth; he really couldn't. What was he saying? He'd already hurt her! Did he want to keep her just to hurt her? Of course not. That was not his intention. He wanted to keep her to love and cherish her. He didn't want to hurt her...because he'd confessed his love in that moment of madness because he really meant it. It just wasn't for the cameras.

As he held her close he remembered in the arena just before he had killed Rookie, how she had whispered in his ear her last wish: 'Whatever you do, Marvel, you have to promise me this. Look after Lucy, don't hurt her. You have to be her boyfriend to win...you're the only one that ever could.' Then he had stabbed Rookie and that was it. He'd even let Rookie down for hurting Lucy...
