Chapter 225: "I wagered on you." (2)

Inside the study on the other side.

Gu Xi looked at the amount that Gu Xi had deposited, jotted it down, and, finally, added a zero behind it and deposited the amount into a separate account.

[Amount deposited: 520,990 yuan. Memo: Xixi's living expenses.]

This account was opened up in Gu Xi's name except that Gu Xi had no idea that it existed.

There had already been two deposits to this account before the 520,990 yuan deposit just a little while ago. They were the "living expenses" that Gu Xi had paid to him in the past.

Gu Xi had given him 456 yuan the first time.

Gu Shao still kept the odd amount of money inside his cabinet.

He had thought about it some more afterward and opened up an account under Gu Xi's name and deposited the amount inside of it.

He had, however, added a "0" to the end of it when he deposited it.

Gu Xi had given him another 1,800 yuan the month after that. It seemed to be the prize money that she had received from a moderate-size mathematical olympiad that she had entered into representing some after-school program.

Gu Shao had deposited 18,000 yuan into the account then.

At this rate, Gu Xi would become a "little rich woman" in no time.

Gu Shao thought to himself and smiled.

Regardless, it wasn't a bad thing for her to have a lumpsum of money. He had read an article that said that a special account created for a child could be a kind of an umbilical cord between the parents and their children.

Gu Shao figured he would give the card to Gu Xi when she was of age.

Gu Shao put away his cellphone after he saw the message that the transfer was successful.

He had yet to figure out where the odd amount of 52,099 came from.

And that bothered him.

He had wanted to ask Gu Xi about it but Gu Xi had been yakking with him the entire way back and he had forgotten about it.

The weekend went by quickly.

Coincidentally, Gu Xi and Gu Shao got ready to leave at the same time on Monday morning.

Sitting in front of the dining table, Gu Xi looked up when she saw Gu Shao walking over.

She smiled when she saw Gu Shao and said to him, "Dad is handsome as usual today."

Her flattery was very abrupt, but the corners of Gu Shao's lips raised upward visibly.

Immediately after that, she added, "You can wear this to our school.

"Oh, I mean, next time when you have a chance to come to my school," added Gu Xi, her voice weakened noticeably.

Gu Shao's hand that was holding the chopsticks paused a little when he heard Gu Xi's words.

He knew full well the meaning of her words.

Gu Xi had been bringing up about "going to school" subtly over the entire weekend.

Was she trying to remind him to go to the parent-teacher conference? That she wished he'd go but worried that he wouldn't?

Thinking of that, Gu Shao found Gu Xi's nervousness and cautiousness that she tried very hard to hide but was still showing in her eyes both comical and made his heart ached at the same time.

"I will be there on time for the parent-teacher conference this afternoon," said Gu Shao to her directly.

Looking at Gu Xi looking up abruptly with a look of surprise and happily, he went on to say to her, "Next time, you can just tell me directly what you want to say."

There was no need to be so subtle or cautious.

Gu Xi's smile freeze a little when she heard that and her cheeks blushed. She felt somewhat embarrassed – she had tried so hard to be "subtle". As it turned out, Gu Shao knew it all along......

Gu Xi looked down and nodded, feeling slightly embarrassed.

Then, she heard Gu Shao's voice coming from above her head again, "I'll drop you off school after you are done eating."

Gu Shao had been too busy lately and hadn't been dropping her off school.

Sure enough, Gu Xi had a bright smile on her all over again as soon as Gu Shao had finished talking. "I'm done. Let's go."

"Finish eating."

"I'm finished."

"Swallow the green bean cake."

"Oh."
