CHAPTER SIX

Mother said father would be staying with us till he was better. I didn't like the idea because i knew what it meant.

Aunty sola had abused mother in the hospital and embarrassed her but mother was quiet all through.

"You are doing it again"

"Gbengaaaa!!!!!!!!!" I hugged him really tight. I didn't even know i had missed him that much.

" you really need to stop thinking so much its not good for your health ina-ayomi".

"I'm sorry I couldn't help it a lot has been going on"

" I know, I heard mother on the phone when you were in the hospital".

I heard mother talking on the phone before we left the hospital. She was telling aunty Eri that aunty sola would be coming to our place once in a while because of father.

"Gbenga it seems like my life is changing". Gbenga was quiet and lost which was unlike him. He didn't even look at me he just sat there was he...?

"Gbenga are you crying?" he tried to hide it but I already saw it. "Talk to me, what's wrong?". He turned to face me but still didn't look at me he had stopped crying but the tears were still dropping.

"Am I that bad of a friend?" what was he talking about?

"What do you mean Gbenga?"

" why didn't you tell me you were sexually harassed?". Now it was my turn to be dumb.

"Im sorry Gbenga".

"Sorry doesn't cut it!!!!!!! Sorry doesn't cut it!!! I heard about it from my mother Ina-ayo that's not even fair".

He was now in tears fully. Gbenga has always been like a brother to me we did almost everything together.

"I promised to protect you at all times and I failed!"

" you didn't fail, it wasn't your fault Gbenga. You were not even there!"

FEW MONTHS AGO

Gbenga had promised me that we would go home together but he left early. He left with Rachel his crush he told me they were going to walk to get ice cream and I didn't want to be a third wheel.

I had never walked home alone and u was thinking of calling uncle Ayo but I didn't think mother would like it.

"Hey slut! I heard your father left cause he was tired of your mother" I turned back not surprised to see Hammed and his gang. I was scared but I just wanted to focus on leaving this place.

"Leave me alone!" I tried walking when someone dragged my clothes from behind. It was after lesson period so the school was almost empty and I had gone back to pick my text book which I had forgotten.

I tried to fight for my clothe from the guy but he was too strong.

"Why don't you strip for me maybe your father will return". They were all laughing while the guy and I kept on fighting for my shirt.

Hammer and I used to be friends together with Gbenga until father left and his mother told him he can't hang out with us anymore because I was bad luck.

"Please stop!" I begged but no one listened. I cried for help but I don't think anyone heard.

I just wanted the world to end as I kept on trying to keep my clothes on while Hammed filmed me.

"Who is back there?" I have never been so happy at the sound of the janitor. I sat on the floor till the man came to check the classroom.

"What are you doing here? Who did this to you?" I didn't even have the words to say I just wanted to go home and have my birth. The man helped me to the gate and that was when uncle AYO saw me. I made him promise me he would never tell mother she was already going through a lot.

PRESENT DAY

"I am sorry Gbenga I didn't want you feeling bad"

"I should have been there! I'm going to kill him!"

" no you won't" I knew Gbenga hardly got angry but when he did, it was really bad and I didn't want him getting in trouble for me. "Uncle Ayo and mother will settle it. Please let them" he looked at me tears still in his eyes "Gbenga promise me".

"I promise".
