Epilogue

It's the end of the first year, we're going to be seniors after the summer! (Summer ends in a couple days). Me and Barb are ecstatic as we'll be adults which means we can go on all those road trips and vacations we had both planned.

The newspaper printing was finished and had started to be distributed around town, I don't think it was the best idea stirring up old news as the newspapers started disappearing from everywhere piece by piece. I don't think there's even a remnant of its existence left, no one knows where they went, Kate explained that she saw a van with the lab's branding on it taking them but I doubt it, nothing like school gossip to stir up controversy. Steve and I have been going on frequent outings while I try to convince Barb to get a double date, I feel really terrible leaving her out.

Mike and all of his group are transferring to the Middle School now which means he has to go with me to school (Joy). Since it's a new year, the clubs all switch around, which means I might have to try out for drama club... Besides all that, I explained to Steve about the biker gang that harassed Barb. He fully went up to them badass style and threatened to make their lives hell if they didn't stop. Let's say they never tried to harass Barb again, this new year is a reset for all of us to redefine ourselves even Carol and Tommy are slightly less harsh to me and Barb now. We're all combined into Steve's little group and I think they're even planning a party or something.

I still check into Mr Hauser's class every one in a while when it's empty and I'd talk to him without the need for small talk. Everything's going pretty well for me right now, very soon, me and Barb are going out so we can enjoy the last few days of the break. Her cabrio is never being outgrown as its the vehicle I've been in far too many times by now, it gets us to where we need to be.

I gave Mike a pep talk, he was especially nervous about Middle School but then I explained laboriously about how far I came. I still find it hard to believe that I went from some quiet shy girl to Steve's plus one; I sometimes get looks for it at school which make me uncomfortable but being with him is worth that.

I'm currently reminiscing in my bedroom about the entire year until I hear my mother knock and gently say, "Barbara's here."

I rush downstairs, pull my bag off the banister and swing out the door and there she is waiting in her car. I jump in and I ask, "Do you remember everything? How nervous I was when we became friends?" I say extremely quickly with a grin.

"I remember you being sat next to me in History and me thinking 'What's this prom queen doing sitting here' and going through the halls and being surprised you weren't already a bratty popular girl."

"Gee, thanks for that. Do you still think I'd fit in as a popular girl?"

"I'd say so."

She busts up the radio and lets the windows down as the sun beats its rays down upon my hand. I lean back and let the sun bathe me as Barb drives us down to the Palace Arcade to meet up with my brothers friends. I would count this as babysitting but I actually wanted to go this time round surprisingly.
