If he has so much confidence in this Maya person, why doesn't he just get with her?
I was now sitting in the garden area of the packhouse, playing with a fallen leaf. Could time pass any slower? What was considered dinnertime here anyways? Why couldn't he just tell me what he meant by what he said earlier?
"I hate him" I mumbled to myself, gritting my teeth. What made him so confident that I would fall out of love with Austin by dinnertime? Did he think our love was that weak? It may have seemed that way, since Austin practically delivered me to the Alpha's doorstep, but that was only because he threatened him! It had to be..
"My Luna," A sweet, timid voice rang behind me. I almost jumped out of my skin, but instead I stood and turned to face her. This must be Maya.
"I am not Luna," I stated, my face hot with anger just at the suggestion, though I calmed down when I saw her face. She wasn't nearly as menacing as Angelo made her out to be. Her head was lowered as if I were of a higher rank, though I couldn't continue to be mad at her. Alpha most likely instructed her to behave this way.
"Of course, my apologies." Was her simple response, which lowered my guard a bit. My shoulders slumped and I was ready to sit back down until she spoke again.
"Alpha has instructed me to take you to your room. He believes a wardrobe change is in order."
Oh, so now my dress isn't good enough for him. Well, fine! I'll get all dolled up so he can see what he's missing when I prove him wrong about Austin!
"Perfect. Let's do that now." I couldn't help but feel wicked. My mate would have to watch and suffer as I paid all of my attention to the man I chose to love, the man I will spend the rest of my life in love with. I hope it kills him inside when I don't even spare him a glance! That's what he gets for not only attempting to separate us, but also threatening me, and my family.
I took my sweet time getting ready for dinner. Maya helped me curl my hair into subtle beachwaves, and she chose a wine red lipstick to accent my dark hair and pale skin. I pulled a velvet red dress from the wardrobe that hugged my curves, and had a slit up the thigh. Simple black heels slipped onto my feet and with that, I was ready for dinner.
"You look beautiful, miss." Maya beamed at me, standing beside me as I looked in the mirror. Maya was quite beautiful herself, with her silky sandy hair and ocean blue eyes, I would've pictured her as our next Luna instead of myself. Hopefully after this dinner, Alpha will reconsider.
"Let's go. Don't wanna be late." I was almost excited to have dinner with the Alpha! Just so I could rub his face in what would never be his.
The closer we got to the dining hall, the more intense his scent became. It was going to be hard ignoring him, but I was doing it for my true love. My Austin.
My eyes scanned the room for him as soon as I arrived, however I was interrupted by Angelo's chest a mere inch away from my face. Seriously? It's like this guy flew in front of me as soon as I arrived.
"You look amazing," He murmured, again as if he were talking to himself. He took my hand and placed a kiss upon it before I could pull away. I wanted to saw my hand off after such a display, but I decided to play nice since he was doing me the favor of allowing me to see my lover for dinner.
"Austin," I called out, ignoring the Alpha's display of affection. I took a step to the side so I could finally see him, the man I'd been crying for all day.. But it didn't look like he was interested in seeing me.
No.. His eyes were on Maya. He was looking at her the same way the Alpha had been staring at me since we arrived.
It couldn't be..
"Austin?" My voice cracked, and I felt my knees get weak. Is this why he didn't fight? Is this girl the reason he had so easily given up on our relationship?
His gaze finally snapped over to me and he stood up from his seat. Had he really not even noticed my presence before? He looked embarrassed, ashamed, and nervous all in one. "Ama, you don't understand-"
No, I must be wrong. This was all a big misunderstanding. I was just sensitive because of everything that had happened today.
"Oh, don't worry about me. I'm getting worked up over nothing!" I forced a smile and practically skipped up to the table to sit next to him. I saw the Alpha raise a brow, but I didn't care.
"Maya, please pour us a glass of wine each." Alpha Angelo requested before taking his seat at the head of the table. I assumed the seat next to his was meant to be mine, given there was a plate setup there, however he didn't say a word. He just watched us with those cold eyes, as if there was something funny.
"So," He began, and I already didn't want to know what he was going to say next. "How long have you two been together?"
