I couldn't move. My body willed me forward but my heart kept me paralyzed. It couldn't be.. There was no way my mate was sitting in that office. Even more unbelievable was that Austin would willingly bring me to him. The love of my life, the man on my mind every moment of the day just sold me out to my assigned mate.
I didn't get the chance to say a word before the door flung open and revealed the person I least wanted to see in this moment.
"Alpha-!" Austin began, but was silenced by a gesture.
"You have done well, we will no longer require your presence. Your father is waiting for you in the training room, go there immediately." His voice was like velvet, deep yet smooth. I felt as though I could become lost in just a sentence with a voice like that.
"Wait!" I blurted out, shaking myself out of my momentary trance. "Austin, don't leave me here! What is all of this?" My voice cracked, though I had little time to be embarrassed at a time like this.
It was as though I had spoken a foreign language- no, it was as though I hadn't even spoken at all. Austin turned tail and made his way towards the training room as instructed by Alpha Angelo.
"Austin! Don't you love me?! What the fuck is this!" I couldn't hold it in anymore. The tears flowed from my eyes like an open faucet and I ran towards him, gripping his shoulder's with all the strength I could muster.
"Why are you doing this?! You said you didn't care if we weren't mates! Our love was more important than some stupid matchmaking!"
"Amaris, let me go,"
His words were like tiny daggers, simultaneously etching into my soul. How could he be so nonchalant? It had to be because of Alpha Angelo. This was his doing! Austin must be under threat at the moment, and can't tell me how he really feels.
I turned towards the bastard with every intention to lunge forward and demand he leave my chosen mate alone, however my body froze when I looked into his eyes. Those honey brown eyes, that needn't any sunlight to twinkle. He was watching me with those alluring eyes, and somehow disarming me without even lifting a finger. This was my first time meeting our Alpha, though I'd seen photos of him numerous times when I was in high school. We weren't far apart age wise, so every girl in school thought she had a chance with him.
"Why are you doing this to me?" I could barely whisper, falling to my knees. I didn't know if I was being overly dramatic, but I didn't care. We had been together for years. I couldn't imagine being without him, much less being with an Alpha I so disliked.
"Amaris, what a beautiful name.." It seemed as though this wasn't directed towards me, but that he was making a mental note of it by the way he whispered.
I stayed where I was, feeling both Austin and Alpha Angelo's eyes on me. I didn't want Austin to leave, I would do anything to keep him here beside me.
"You are dismissed, Beta Heir. There is nothing left for you here. This is between me and my mate now."
"Yes, Alpha."
"How can you say that?!" I bolted up to my feet, whipping around to look at Austin. I gave him a firm shove as I felt the anger transpiring through my body. "Don't you care about what's happening? Won't you fight for me?"
I felt a firm hand on my shoulder, and the mere touch sent sparks throughout my body. With a shiver, I looked back at my Alpha and felt as though I might get sucked into his eyes again.
"Don't you feel it?" He almost whispered to me, his eyes wide. "Does your body not will you closer to me? Does your mind not beg you to submit?" He turned me towards him, leaning down to be at eye level with both of his hands on my shoulder's now. "Does your wolf not scream 'mate' at the sight of me, like mine is doing at this very moment?"
"Let me go!" I couldn't be with someone so.. so horrible! My Alpha ordered executions of people left and right, how could I ever feel safe in his arms?
"You don't have a choice, Amaris.. Come with me, or face the banishment of not only you, but your family as well."
I stopped, my eyes wide. I couldn't believe what he had just said but at the same time, I knew it wasn't a bluff. This must be why Austin is being so compliant.. I couldn't believe this man.. someone so horrible.. could be my mate!
We didn't say another word after this. He took it upon himself to place his hand on the small of my back and guide me upstairs, on the restricted section of the packhouse. This area was restricted only for the Alpha, Luna, and Betas of the pack.
"I will send Maya to fetch you for dinner once it is ready. Feel free to explore this section of the packhouse but do not, under any circumstances, leave this floor. Do you understand?"
I simply nodded my head and took a few steps forward, hoping I'd wake up from this nightmare soon.
I heard a sigh come from Angelo, before his foot steps began to fade away, leaving me alone in this unfamiliar place. All I could muster up the courage to do was fall to my knees once more and break down into sobs.
This was every girls dream, so why did it have to be my reality?
