-Well shit -I complained, seeing the guards looking at us a bit in shock
Dextrius and Lucien blinked
-It's not what it looks like -Dextrius said as the soldiers pulled out their swords
-It's definitely what it looks like -Lucien replied with a dead serious face
-Guards! -One of the soldiers called- The prisoner has escaped!
Lucien raised a brow
-Don't move! -The other soldier yelled
- Man, if you really think I'm going to stick around until the other guards come to arrest us you're very wrong mister -Lucien replied as he dragged us both running out of the dungeons.
-Which way? -Lucien asked stopping in front of three hallways. The soldier's steps sounding closer and closer for every second we stayed there.
-Uhhhhhhh, I don't know-? -Dextrius replied sweatdropping
-You live here and you don't even fucking know how to get out of here!? -Lucien yelled exasperated
-Why the heck would I ever need to escape the dungeons!? -Dextrius answered in the same tone as him
-In case you helped someone escape and a bunch of soldiers were going to follow you maybe?
-Well I didn't know this was going to happen!
-You didn't know that if you helped someone escape and you got caught they'd chase us!?
I rolled my eyes sighing tiredly, I heard the steps getting closer and they did too as they suddenly shut up
-Turn right -I said running in said direction
sir Lucien and lord Dextrius following me, but as soon as we got out of the dungeons I froze. Some soldiers caught Zoya. She looked completely beaten up, her emerald eyes looking away from us and tears running down her cheeks, her orange wavy hair was being held by one of the soldiers
-I'm sorry...T-They found out....-she apologized quietly
lord Dextrius and sir Lucien arrived shortly after
-Let her go -Dextrius ordered
-We have orders to capture anyone who wants to leave before tomorrow, plus you are trying to escape with a prisioner lord Dextrius -One of them answered
-And your father disowned you, you can't give us orders anymore -another guard answered
I saw sir Lucien clenched his fists, he wanted to use his magic but he couldn't do it without hurting Zoya in the process
-However, we can make a deal - another soldier said- Give us the prisioner and we'll send them both to the mines, letting you both escape as a sign of respect for our old friendship
lord Dextrius and sir Lucien exchanged looks, I knew sir Lucien was resigned to go to the mines, but I wasn't going to let that happen
-Lord Dextrius -I called- You know how to go from here
The soldiers and lord Dextrius frowned hearing that
-What do you mean...? -he asked in a worried tone
-I can't let you or sir Lucien get sent to the mines milord -I replied drawing my sword out
-That's bullshit, you're coming with us -Lucien said with contained anger in his voice as he suspected what I was doing. The soldiers were getting ready to fight as they pushed Zoya out of their way
I shaked my head
-Your security is my first priority, I'll hold them here -I replied as I started fighting with them- Please take care of him sir Lucien
sir Lucien hesitated for a few seconds, then he closed his eyes, nodded and picked up lord Dextrius like a potato sack and ran away
-EDEL! -I heard lord Dextrius yell in the distance- LUCIEN WE CAN'T LEAVE WITHOUT HIM PUT ME DOWN!
-YOU THINK I WANT TO LEAVE HIM THERE!? -Lucien yelled back at him- HE'S SACRIFICING FOR US SO MIGHT AT LEAST NOT MAKE IT BE IN VAIN
I smiled sadly, I felt a wave of magical energy arriving. I pulled out my sword and began to fight. Was it an unfair fight? Considering they were five, and I was alone, I knew I didn't have a single chance, all I needed was entertain them enough to give time for lord Dextrius and sir Lucien to leave the castle and be safe. More and more soldiers arrived, but I stil had a trick under my sleeve.
- It's a shame to fight the captain of the royal guard for treason
I rolled my eyes
-I don't need your pity, Ivire -I replied
-Who said I pity you, Edel? -Ivire grinned and made me a sign. I didn't quite get the meaning at first, but suddenly he drew his sword out and positioned nex to me
Wait, what the actual fu-
-C-Captain Ivire? - a soldier asked- We have to fight against the captain of the royal guard and captain Ivire?
I definitely wasn't expecting that, Ivire is Zoya's older brother, but they look like twins. Last time I checked he hated me, or at least didn't like me much
-Don't get used to this, I'm only helping you because you are dating my sister, I still hate you -he whispered so no one else as he could hear my thoughts
That made more sense, I nodded in a "I expected it" way
-Yup, bitches you have to fight us both -Ivire said with a mischievous grin and a bit of a sadistic look on his eyes. I felt a shiver going down my spine, he was a bit scary. Just a bit.
The soldiers stared at each other wondering wether to run or fight, but one stepped up, Karl, and began to fight us both on his own. We defeated him easily but the others got encouraged to fight us aswell. More and more soldiers were coming, some to fight us and some to chase after lord Dextrius and sir Lucien.
After a while, we were both tired and our magical energy was almost dead, Ivire managed to defeat a few more soldiers but he got knocked out right after. I kept on fighting until I started feeling dizzy, my energy was completely drained. I passed out while hearing someone screaming my name, Zoya, it was Zoya she was screaming my name, I had a suddenly realiced something...we will be sent to the mines...what I wanted to avoid...Zoya...My love...I'm sorry....I wasn't able...To protect you...I can't keep my promise...We won't be able to have a bakery...We won't be able to escape this madness and live a happy life in the village...we won't be able to build a family...because we'll most likely die in a few days...or weeks to be optimistic..
