You should kill them all and escape
That's the first thing that came to my mind as the guards guided me to the dungeons. I don't know why I wasn't resisting, maybe it was the small hope I had in my heart, my wish to know what happened to my friend, Najä. The guards stopped in front of an open cell and pushed me inside of it, closing the door right after.
-...Wait -I called as they were leaving, the coldness in my voice was more noticeable than before
-What do you want, demon? -One of the guards replied looking at me with hatred
I grabbed the cell bars tightly searching the words to ask what was worrying me
-Where's my friend Najä -I asked coldly
The guards exchanged looks and laughed
-She's in the mines, where the other demons are waiting to be killed next year. The prisioners that will be killed tomorrow are already on their way to town -The same guard replied as he left with his partner

Why do you care? You don't even trust people, why are you worried about a noble? She would have backstabbed you like all those betrayals you saw and suffered in the past. Just use your magic to kill everyone and escape.
As much as I wanted to do it, that would turn me into the demon they think I am. I closed my eyes, thinking my life would be over tomorrow, and suddenly all the thoughts I had were about Najä. Her scarlet hair with black strikes and golden eyes, characteristic from our land, invaded my mind. Her tender smile and how she always tried to get me to open up to her. I remembered the day I met her, when we were kids. All that worried me was if she would survive in the mines, and how would she react if I died. And then another thought popped out from a corner in my mind.
What would I do without her kind eyes and her tender smile?
That thought felt like someone threw a bucket of cold water on me. I had to escape, I couldn't die, not with Najä being in danger. When I made sure she was safe, I would keep my distance as always, maybe even die, but...something inside of me needed to make sure she was safe. I had a sudden determination, but at the same time fear. Fear I wasn't going to make it in time, fear I wouldn't be able to escape, fear she would die, fear I'd lose the light at the end of the dark tunnel my life is. Fear I would lose my hope, the strength I had by my side to keep going all these years
Where the fuck are all these thoughts coming from? Last time I checked, I didn't depend on anyone to be strong. But that seems to have changed.
I decided I would try to figure out what I was thinking and why when I was out of here, and Najä was safe and sound. Escaping was my first priority and the one right after was saving Najä.

Night fell and my thoughts were interrupted by some voices in the hallway.
-Over here, milord -A guard appeared followed by Dextrius
-Thank you, Edel -Dextrius thanked him
I honestly felt repulsion just from seeing them. The soldier's uniforms are a white armor with a dark blue eight point star, dark blue gloves and dark blue boots. Awful design, in my opinion.
-Lucien -Dextrius called my name
-Daddy's boy -I replied bitterly. He blinked several times and bursted out laughing
-That one's good, I've never been called that before -he replied smiling- And it's ironic, because my father hates me.
-Why are you here Dextrius? -I asked- To make fun of me?
-Actually, I'm here to help you escape -he replied
What?
-And why would you do that? -I asked, feeling suspicious
-Because -he showed me his hand which got covered in a black flame- I have magic too, and my father won't hesitate to kill me tomorrow if he finds out
-The test? Even you have to go through it? -I asked raising a brow
-Yeah, and he won't give a fuck if I'm his son, he will kill me either way -he replied
-And what does that have to do with me? -I asked again suspicously
-Well, I figured, that if I'm going to escape, might aswell bring you with me. You are one of the most powerful mages in the world, it would be a waste to let you die. Plus I could really use a teacher to you know, control this flame -he replied sweatdropping a little- I know you don't trust me but I really want to help you, it could be a win-win situation. You escape, I get to learn magic and we defeat my father along with the other heirs. What do you say?
I considered it, he seemed to be telling the truth. All my instincts were yelling that it was a trap, but I decided to ignore them for once.
-Fine, but don't expect me trust you. At least, not yet. And I have one condition -I replied. I saw a relieved smile appear on his face
-Sure, what is it? -he asked
-We will destroy Xenjir -I replied. His eyes opened wide in surprise
-The mines? Sure, I was planning on that too but, is there an specific reason? -he asked
-......One of my friends is there -I answered simply
He nodded in understanding
-Then that shall be one of our first priorities -He smiled- But now I kinda need to get you out before-
I interrupted him by making the cell door explode
-Or you can do that -He looked surprised- Why didn't you do that before?
-I didn't know if the bars were made of Xenji, you know that metal allows to know if someone can use magic or not right? Well it can also block the access to a person's magical power if you are surrounde by it, or exposed to it during long periods of time -I replied
-Really? Damn -he replied still in shock
-Uhm, lord Lucien, lord Dextrius, we should go before the guards come back -The guard, Edel I think, said
-You're right Edel, let's go -he replied standing aside to let me step out
-Let's go -I agreed walking out the cell
As soon as I walked out, the guards came back
-Well shit -Edel cursed
