"And here are your quarters," Maverick beckons you into a small room, fitted with a bed and countertop. "Unless," he leans against the metal door frame and stares at you. "You have a place of your own?"
You roll your eyes at his mischievous expression. "Yeah, I do, now that you mention it. I also have a nice, comfortable bed that you will never get in." I sneakily sway my hips as I take a few steps up to Maverick, then walk back again. Maverick chuckles, a glint of lust in his glassy blue eyes.
Goose pops up from behind the corner in the hallway. "Mav, Metcalf needs us on deck." Goose then looks over at me, a friendly smile stretching across his face. "All new Top Gun trainees are needed." You nod, reaching down to your wrist and pulling a black hair tie off of your soft skin. You then reach up and pull your H/C hair into a ponytail. You catch sight of Maverick snickering, like he's holding back a joke. "Trust me, this ponytail isn't for you," you sneer and push past him, getting annoyed at his attitude. "What's got her pretty panties in a twist?" You hear him ask his best friend before you take a flight of stairs up to the deck.
A/N: Hey luvs! Imma try something new and put Pete's POV in here as well, just to spice things up, you know? I'll try to make POV changes as easy as possible, but forgive me if I forget to label a POV. Please comment any ideas, comments or concerns <3
Pete's POV
"Maybe your ego got the best of you?" Goose teases, nudging my shoulder. I shake my head, too stubborn and hard-headed to admit that my flirtatious ways were a little to spiteful. "Don't worry, Goose, I'll get her to like me, just you wait."
Goose and I join the rest of the trainees upstairs and sit right behind Y/N, the same little scowl on her pretty face. I look up and meet the waiting eyes of some broad standing next to our instructor. She's got on a fancy jacket and a stern look, and I can feel her judging gaze from three rows away. "As I was saying," she continues, "The Mig-28 does have a problem with its inverted flight tanks. It wont do a negative G pushover." I look over at Goose. "What kind of bullshit is this chick spitting?" I mouth to him and he mutters something back. "The latest intelligence tells us that the most it will do is one negative- Excuse me, lieutenant?" Goose and I freeze and look up at her. I notice the badge on her jacket. Charlie. "Is there something wrong?" I smile devilishly.
"Yes ma'am, the data on the Mig is inaccurate." Everyone, all except for Y/N, look over at me. Charlie smiles to herself. "How's that, lieutenant?" I take my shades off, trying my best to ignore Y/N's rage seething over to me. "Well, I just happened to see a Mig-28 do a-" "We! We..." Goose interrupts. "Sorry, Goose... We happened to see a Mig-28 do a 4g negative dive." Charlie, amused, smiles again. "Where did you see this?" "That's classified." "That's what?" "It's classified," I repeat. "I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you." Y/N scoffs and shifts in her seat; this was bothering her.
Y/N's POV
Maverick flirting with that girl seemed to go on forever, shift about foreign relations and Maverick swearing he was inverted in a Mig-28, until a voice jumped in. "Alright, gentlemen, we have a hop to take. Our deck on this hop will be 10,000 feet, there will be no engagement below that." Finally. You shoot up from your seat and storm past Maverick, desperate for some action already. Just as you pass him, he reaches out and grabs your forearm. "I hope I wasn't bothering you with my mission report," he gawks. you shake out of his grip. "Oh, Maverick, one day your ego will finally be as small as your dick," you spit, then continue walking. Whistles and "oohs" cloud your departure.
You slip your flying helmet on, adjusting the oxygen mask to dangle beside your face, ready to use when you're in the air. Unlike everyone else in this division, you didn't need a second flyer with me. You trained to fly alone, and that's what you were going to do. You're plane pulsates with power as it slowly turns and loads itself into the launching patch. A few men check the wheels and the wings before signaling the tower behind and above us. You look to your right; Maverick and Goose were planning to take off at the same time as you. Even behind the helmet, you can feel his cheeky smile. He waves teasingly at you, begging you to react. You look back ahead of you before shooting up your middle finger, waving it around for him and everyone on the takeoff patch to see. Through the headset in your helmet, you hear his disgust. "Now, why'd you go on and do a thing like that?" he asks with a snicker. "Oh, you know..." You turn your head back to him. "Just keeping up with foreign relations." And with that, you signal the tower, and you and Maverick's planes launch forward, shooting up and away from each other. Your entire body is smashed against your seat, but you keep your cool as your wings level out and you gain speed and altitude, soaring further upwards into the cloudy ocean skies.
Maverick struggles a bit to catch up with you, but he does eventually, gliding by your left side, wings almost touching. "You trying to get us killed, idiot?!" You hear Goose shout over the headset, followed by Maverick's devilish laugh. "No, but that might," You reply to him as a foreign aircraft enters my view from ahead. You'd never seen anything like this before, the sleek black plane had no markings or icons to reveal it's name or making. You push after it, following closely and contently, but keeping your weapons unsheathed. Without any warning, the plane shoots upwards, spiraling horizontally into the thick blanket of clouds above you. You take a deep breath, feeling your plane shake under tension below you. "Easy, Y/N," You hear Goose say slowly and soothingly in your ear." "Aw, that didn't shake you up, did it? I thought Y/N "Hawks" L/N was supposed to be braver than that." It seems like what Maverick said at the end was intended for Goose's ears only, but once he realizes you heard him, he struggles for a comeback. Too late, you've already swerved left and broken formation, staying a bit further away from Maverick's plane than before. You nearly forget about it until an ear-splitting ring hits your ears. You recognize it in a heartbeat and check your monitors.
That bastard is back, and he has you locked in target.
"Oh, shit!" Maverick says as you swerve right, then left, trying to get him off your tail, but he stays locked. "Alright, uh, he's probably just trying to scare you!" Goose reassures, but you can still feel a bead of sweat trickle down from your forehead. Maverick's voice crackles in and out of service, and you curse yourself for moving too far away from the asshole. "He's locked, he's locked!" You shout, getting the attention of the tower. In slow motion, you watch as eighteen monitors go wild, letting you know that his guns were now out. "He's showing his guns!" You shout frantically. Where the hell was Maverick?! "Prepare for fire!" I hear Goose warn, and I squeeze my eyes tightly shut, feeling hopelessness swallow me. Then, like a cool breeze of relief, you hear Maverick's voice again. "I have him locked in. Bastard won't shoot unless he want's to die, too." There's a tone of protectiveness in Maverick's voice. The bogey quickly takes me off his radar and swerves left, kicking up speed as he flies off back in the direction in which he came.
The moment your cockpit opens up, you're springing out of it, throwing off your helmet in desperation for fresh air. Maverick is the first to talk. "Hey!" He gets out just as quick as you. He leaves Goose in the dirt and jogs towards you. For the first time, you see genuine concern in his eyes. But, yours on the other hand are trickling with fearful, involuntary tears. Out of instinct, you wrap your arms around his waist and bury your face in his chest. He frantically freezes and his breath hitches. "Wha-" "Thank you, Maverick," you whisper just loud enough for him to hear over the roar of the planes engines. Slowly, he returns the hug, taking in a breath and then chuckling.
"It's Pete, doll."
