~Flashback~
Alec walks in the front door of his home with his mother behind him. He hasn't stepped foot in here in about 6 months, it feels weird. After being surrounded with doctors 24/7.
"Your brother and sister are at their friends house right now but I know they'll wanna see you when they get home, if you want something to eat let me know and I'll grab it for you." His mother explains while helping him get comfortable on the couch.
"I'm fine mum, I'm not that hungry just trying to get used to not having doctors breathing down my neck all day. I'm just glad to be able to have some freedom." Alec smiles slightly at his mother. His mother has a concerned look in her eyes as she smiles down at her eldest child. She was very worried about him, but what else can you expect a kid to do after what he's been through. Any kid would do the same thing if not something similar. Any mother would be concerned, but there wasn't much she could do without feeling like she's hovering or pushing.
"Where's John?" Alec questions quietly. If you asked him why he seemed a bit more shaky he'd say he's tired but that's not the case.
"He had to go into the office again, I'm not sure when he'll be home, but Alec you do know that technically he's your father right?" His mother explains with a nervous look. If you asked his mother why she was nervous, she'd say she's worried about her son, but was that the truth?
"He may be Jace and Jade's father but all he is to me is your husband, he's not my father and never will be, I'll tolerate him cause he makes you happy but he's not my father and never will be" Alec explains while trying not to sound angry. See the thing about Alec's dad, is the fact that you won't find him anywhere. Well there is one place, but no one would think to look there. Bridgetown cemetery. Alec's father passed away when Alec was 12. So instead of moping around his mother remarried to John Warner, then had his twin siblings when Alec was 14, Jace and Jade. Alec is now 18 while Jace and Jade are 4. John and Carol got married when Alec was only 13, just a year after his dad passed away. Carol and the twins both took on John's last name, which is Warner. Alec on the other hand told his mom he was taking on his dad's last name Ward. His father was a very respected man, Zachariah Ward. He owned a large company that took in aspiring authors and helped them get on their feet, if they're just coming out of college or if they've been writing for years but want a change. Maybe that's where Alec's passion for reading and writing comes from, his father would always show him new books his workers were working on, and even brought him to work with him on weekends. Their bond was as close as one would expect, people envied their relationship. Although it didn't last. Like all good things, it had to come to an end. When Alec and his dad were heading back from a fair on Alec's 12th birthday they got into an accident. Zachariah protected Alec. In the end Zachariah risked his life to protect his only son.
"Alec honey, Jace and Jade are on their way back. I didn't tell them you were home yet so just to warn you." Carol says from the kitchen. Alec just sits on the couch with a blank stare on his face. Alec keeps thinking back to the final moments with his father. He doesn't register the front door opening, or the pitter patter of little feet running into the house, or the voices of his mother and siblings talking. He's off in his mind and doesn't plan on coming back yet, but once he feels little arms wrap around him he's brought back to the poor reality that he has to live through.
"ALEC!!!!" Jace yells out while hugging him. He smiles at the two 4 year olds clinging onto him as if their lives depended on it.
"Hey boogers, how have you guys been? Staying out of trouble?" He pats both of their heads kindly. Even if they aren't fully related he still loved both of them the same. They both nod their heads with big smiles and a few tears in their eyes. Not letting a single one fall.
"We missed you a lot, don't go away for that long again please. Mama was really sad and she missed you a lot too" Jade says while tears streamed down her little chubby face. Jace was quick to follow, letting his unshed tears stream down his face while not looking his older brother see him cry.
"I won't be going anywhere anytime soon boogers, I'm sorry for having to leave for a while but I'm back now okay? Don't cry little princes and princesses shouldn't cry" Alec smiles softly at them and wipes their tears away. Now this wasn't the first time Alec has been away from them, but it's been the longest amount of time apart from them that they can remember. Alec always hated lying to them but to cheer them up he might've told a little white lie saying he'll be staying around. Jace and Jade don't know what he was gone for so long, and they'd probably never find out, but in all honesty it's better off that way. Carol watches as her three children all talk and smiles while a small tear falls down her thin cheek. All that runs through her head are thoughts of how Alec looks so much like Zacariah. She wonders if he's watching over the two of them and seeing how much Alec has grown since the accident. She can only hope that she can help Alec in ways she believes only a father can.
