Part 1: Mario
Mario walked through the open front gates and up the school driveway, looking at the nice, rectangular stone blocks that garnished it. She paused at the end of the driveway. Grade 8. She was surprised she managed to get through last year. Mario glanced around. She didn't notice anything new. Wait, what? There were new naming schemes. She thought that it was unnecessary but dismissed it and casually walked to her locker. Turning the corner, she saw the locker room swarming with new faces, even busier than last year, if that was even possible. There were Grade 7s and Grade 10s everywhere, and a person who didn't quite look like she was either of them. Was she a new Grade 8? She was Asian, brown eyed, with her black hair tied up neatly in a ponytail. Mario couldn't exactly be bothered to meet new people right now, but she let her curiosity get the best of her.
'Umm, hello. Are you new?' Mario asked sheepishly.
'Yeah, it's Lightning McQueen, you?' the girl - Lightning McQueen - answered confidently. Mario found herself blushing and tried to hold it back.
'I'm Mario. What school did you go to last year?' Mario queried.
'What's it to you?' Lightning McQueen smirked followed Mario blushing harder, 'Anyway, what's our class?'
'English - I can take you there if you want.'
'Do I have to say yes?' Lightning McQueen asked, 'Kidding, of course.' Who was she to be that cocky? She comes to a new school and that's how she acts? Mario wanted to be angry, but she just found herself blushing an even brighter shade of pink. Mario took Lightning McQueen down to the HUP02 waiting area, or J02 as they were calling it now, barely speaking along the way. It was quite awkward, but Mario, to her surprise also, found herself not being too bothered. Who was the teacher for this class? Ms. Severus Snape - Lightning McQueen probably would want to know too.
'We have Ms. Severus Snape for this subject,' Mario said.
'I got given a diary,' Lightning McQueen joked. Wait, why did she need to know what subject she had? Mario wanted to get annoyed but found herself unable to. She was close to blushing again but managed to control herself as the teacher came to collect the class. Mario walked into class without Lightning McQueen but somehow managed to find herself sitting next to Lightning McQueen again. On one hand, she wanted to move away. Lightning McQueen was quite full of herself. On the other hand, she wanted to stay for a reason she couldn't quite explain. Ms. Severus Snape gave the usual teacher introduction and Mario could already tell she didn't like her. She was cocky, unnecessarily feministic and narcissistic. Kind of like Lightning McQueen, minus the feminism part. Mario wondered why she wasn't bothered by that when it was with Lightning McQueen. English dragged on, Ms Severus Snape blabbering on about whatever she felt like, really. Mario had zoned out, staring at her computer's clock, waiting for it to tick past 9:39 so she could leave. Almost an eternity later, Ms. Severus Snape dismissed the class and Mario left to line up outside the classroom once again, leaning against the newly repainted cinderblock walls, waiting for the next teacher to arrive. Once again, Lightning McQueen found her way to Mario, and Mario wasn't too sure whether she liked it or not.
Part 2: Mario
Mario sat down on the concrete for lunch with the rest of her large, girl-dominated group. It was mid-way through week four, and she was doing a pretty good job getting used to Grade 8. They had another assembly last week and everyone had to wear blazers - wait until Lightning McQueen finds out they'll have to wear it all of term two and three. Mario looked down at her lunch, nestled in cute pink plastic compartments. It was relatively bland and usual, but it was adequate enough. Mario looked around at everyone else's lunch, trying to find some entertainment. It was the same verdict for them all: plain. There was a lunchbox missing from the group, so Mario looked up to check that everyone was there. Wait, where's Lightning McQueen?
