Alison
Four Years Later
"...and I am proud to announce my daughter, Alison Storm, as the new CEO of Storm's Holding's Inc."
I must have read that article for the millionth time in ten minutes. And mind you, it's only been a day since the report came out.
My father has officially announced his retirement. A year later than planned, but we both had agreed that it would be better to not make me CEO when I just got fresh out of college, so we waited a year.
The employees at the Storm House have taken the news well. Or most of them did. A few of the people that have been working for my father for years didn't exactly welcome me with open arms, but they'll have to live with it now.
I get it though. I'm young, only twenty-three. They think I don't know how to keep the company alive or anything about business. But they're wrong. I grew up in this building. I witnessed more of my father's work than I should have. So even though I know a lot of people will be critical about me taking over so early, I know I will be a great CEO.
And besides, my parents believes in me, and they're the only ones I want to make proud. And Rhys, of course. Though he's always proud of me, even when I fail. So are my parents...
It doesn't matter, okay? I am proud of myself for getting here. Yes, yes, with my tons of advantages. But I still got here with a college degree. Didn't cheat in that department.
"Allie." Two arms wrap around me from behind, a chin resting on my head. I still don't understand why he has to be so tall, what the fuck. "Quit being on your phone to read the same article over and over again. This is our wedding, enjoy it."
I turn in Rhys's arms, smiling up at him before I stand on my tippy toes to press my lips to his in a soft kiss. "But I love this article."
Rhys chuckles and pulls me closer into his body. "I know, but the article will still be there tomorrow."
"Yes, but starting tomorrow we'll be traveling through all of Europe and I won't have time to reread it."
"So an article is more important than your wedding day?" I nod. "Well, cheeseball, I don't see how our marriage is going to last under these conditions."
My eyebrows rise, jaw dropping. He never calls me cheeseball, only when he's being extra annoying. "Too bad you've already signed the contract. Should've thought of that before you married me."
My father hates this.
No, that's not true. He's happy for me, he just hates the fact that I'm not a little girl anymore, and no longer live at home. I stop by daily, even if it's just to say hello and still he hates it.
You'd think parents would be happy to have the kids out of the house. Well, my parents are part of the rare ones that are sad about it.
Happy for me though. That much I can guarantee you.
"Our guests are probably wondering where you're at." Rhys keeps his hands interlocked with mine, despite my attempts to escape him. His hands on my body somehow still seem to get the better of me. And right now is not the time to get all steamy with my husband. Yes, yes, even just holding hands.
Oh god. Husband. No, that sounds wrong. I mean, it sounds right but so wrong.
At least I still have my last name. I didn't have much of a choice anyway. My father would have literally murdered Rhys just for me to keep Storm as my last name. I wasn't going to agree on St. James anyway. I mean, Alison St. James? Nah.
