Mysteries in the West

Prologue

It was the year 1867 and in Japan the people of the island nation was living a peaceful life thanks to the Shogun and the Samurai watching over them. There were also the Onmyoji and the spirits who work to keep them safe from all the Yokai wishing to cause them harm however currently a ruckus had arisen as some unknown Yokai broke into one of the temples and stole an artifact that the temple was guarding. So the head of the temple a Monk named Junshin called in some of the Temple's Onmyoji. Junshin was a man in his early 40s and was wearing a light blue kimono with beads around his neck. He was sitting near a table when two young women and a young man walked into the room. The two young women were about the same height though one was slightly taller due to a pair of fox ears on top of her head. This young woman has fox ears and a fox tail with light orange hair and golden eyes. She is a fox spirit in the service of a powerful Yokai named Inari who is one of the protectors of Japan. She was wearing a shrine maiden's kimono. The girl standing next to her and was wearing a shrine maiden outfit as well and has black hair and brown eyes and was holding an Onmyoji staff made out of the wood from one of the cherry trees from the monastery. The young man standing with them was wearing a dark green kimono with a katana on his hip. He has brown eyes and black hair and looked similar to the girl holding the staff. Junshin looked at them and smiled. "Akira and Misako Adachi. Yuki. Thank you for coming!" Junshin said and they nodded as they entered the room and sat down at the table. 

"Of course Junshin!" Akira said smiling as Yuki frowned. "Is this about the break in?" Yuki asked and Junshin nodded. "Should have known one of Inari's servants would know about that!" He replied and Akira and Misako looked at each other confused. "Break in?" They asked and he nodded. "A few nights ago an unknown type of Yokai broke into the temple and stole the artifact we were guarding!" Junshin explained and they looked surprised. "What was taken?" Misako asked shocked. "The Eien no Yoru!" Junshin replied and they looked shocked. "Isn't that the artifact that Yokai tried to use to cause eternal night for the rest of time?" Misako asked and Yuki nodded. "It is indeed! It's very dangerous as several Yokai become much stronger at night!" Yuki said and Junshin nodded. "But how did that Yokai get in? This temple has Inari's protection!" Akira said and Junshin frowned. "It was an extremely powerful Yokai from another land!" Junshin explained. "A Yokai from another land?" Misako asked and Junshin nodded as he stood up and pulled out a map and placed it on the table before rolling it out. "The Yokai has left our lands and headed east with the artifact! To the lands of the Americas!" Junshin explained and they nodded. "And I'm guessing you're sending us to go find the Yokai and retrieve this artifact?" Akira said and Junshin nodded. "Yes! You three are the most capable at the temple so you're the ones we have decided to send!" Junshin said and they nodded. "So then I guess we're heading to America huh?" Misako said and Akira nodded. "Sounds interesting! I've always wanted to see a new land!" Yuki said smiling and Junshin nodded. "Be aware that I'm not entirely sure how this land handles Yokai so be very careful!" Junshin warned and they nodded.

After that Junshin let them leave so they can go get ready to head to America and soon they were setting out on a trade ship bound for California. Yuki had disguised herself as a normal human and was currently looking out at the sea with Misako and Akira. "This is going to be an interesting journey!" Akira said and Misako nodded in agreement. "That it is!" Misako said smiling.
