Two days earlier
I grasp my sweaty palm on the cold silver handle and push open the grey door. I enter a dull small room filled with only a tall cabinet, table, 2 chairs and a big fat bold man squeezed into a sky blue polo shirt with a gold badge stuck on and a tie dangling from his chunky neck sitting comfortably in his chair. I walk over to him sweat dripping down my forehead and stick my arm out ready for a handshake. The fat security guard doesn't attempt to stand out of his comfortable position and reaches for my hand.
"Nice to meet you I'm Aaron Wood" I say shaking the heavy hand.
"Likewise, my name is Gerald Palmer and if you can tell already I'm going to be interviewing you, take a seat"the fat man insisted.
I pull the wooden chair out from the table and sit shoulders back and head high in a attempt to hide my nerves.
"So, Adam before we start talking about the boring stuff tell me about your self" he says unconvincingly.
" well I'm called Aaron not Adam" I leave a gap for a apology but is filled with awkward silence and sinister stare from the fat man saying how dare you correct me. So I continue " erm I live close to this shopping mall ,about a 30 minute drive so I will be reliable to turn up on time. I have a wife and 2 kids one boy aged 5 and girl aged 3 and there are a handful so it keeps me busy ha ha" I nervously laugh. " I like to keep fit I do a lot of biking, running and swim.."
" ok ok thanks for that lecture now tell me why you want to become a security guard" he rudely interrupts. The interview goes on for at least another 30 minutes, mostly me begging for the job and the fat man being rude as possible, but this job was my only option to keep my family fed and have a roof over their heads since I had be declined from all other jobs.
