I stand just near the huge automatic entrance glass doors which struggle to let in light from the sun but can't compete over the artificial light shining from the ceiling and the constant movement of the swarm of customers. All throughout the rest of the day I watch over the customers like a patrol officer in a prison making sure the prisoners stay in line. The hours fly by and becomes one big blur in my memory of me moving from position to position staring at innocent customers. I look down at my silver watch and notice it's 15 minutes till 6, closing time, finally the long day is nearly over.
" HELP HELP OVER HERE" the voice of a scared man shoots through my ear who stands by the men's toilet frantically waving his arms in the air attempting to get attention.I automatically run towards the shouting man barging though the crowd who are marching in the opposite direction towards the exit not caring about the frantic man.
"HELP HELP" he continues to shout trying to be heard over the rowdy crowd. I get to him in a matter of seconds.
"W-what's a matter" I stutter trying to catch my breath.
I look into the mans petrified eyes and he points to the toilet door.
"I-in t-there he's going c-crazy he tried t-to at-attack me" the man bubbled nervously.
" ok ok just stay calm sir did he hurt you" I ask trying to stay calm.
"No but h-he went to b-bite me"
"Bite you?!"
"Y-yeah he was going crazy he's st-still in there now but I punched him and he fell to the floor I-I didn't mean to hurt him but I had no choice"
"It's ok you did the right thing you go home and rest I will call the police but first I'm gonna check on him to see if he's alright"
"O-ok" the man croaks as he stumbles away and merges into the crowd.
"Oh shit oh shit" the thoughts flood my mind."Alright alright just stay calm its gonna be ok your just gonna walk in and make sure he's still conscious, it's that simple, you can do it" I steadily mutter to myself. I take 3 deep breaths nearly emptying my lungs and slowly push through the steel door with my sweaty hand. I enter into the dull white bathroom lined with cubicles on the left, urinals on the right and a row of sinks at the far end with a grubby mirror above. I look around and see a middle aged man in a dark green jumper and black trousers curled up on the grim grey floor with his hands in his shaggy brown hair.
"s-sir" I question aloud. I leave a moment for a response but silence lingers in the air like a bad smell. I step closer, heart thumbing at my chest with my hand tightly grasped on my baton which hangs down from my belt.
"sir" i repeat...no answer.
"sir".....no answer
"s..." I suddenly stop as a animalistc groan comes from the man.
