Iruka was hiding in his room from the war outside. He was shaking and crying thinking about the fact his parent might die out there. The cold floor and rough walls were starting to hurt him however he didn't dare to move. It wasn't long before he started to doze off, crying himself to sleep. The cry of the nine tails woke him up. It was that or the roof of his house falling onto him.  Panic reached him as he tried to stand up but tripped and instead felt the rough wall cut his back open. Then the wood from the roof hit, crushing Iruka into the wall. He could barely breathe so he couldn't call for help instead he was left gasping for air under a sharp plank of wood that had gone straight through his leg. Iruka closed his eyes not wanting to watch the blood spill out. Surely he would die here so he might as well die without regrets. He was supposed to become a Genin in a few days, well he accepted there were no chances of that anymore. Even if he survived he wouldn't be able to walk for at least a year.

Just as he closed his eyes to let his life  leave his body he heard someone shouting. He opened his eyes and saw a kid no older than sixteen yet in an anbu uniform running towards him. Iruka looked away, part of him didn't want to be saved. If his parents were gone there was no point so why did this guy have to act like a hero. "Alright kid. Stay awake, I won't let you die on me." Iruka felt the shock wear off as the boy assessed the plank in his leg. The boy had white hair that looked soft. In the flurry of his thoughts that was clear, that the boy's hair looked soft. The boy was mumbling to himself digging around his pockets for something. Iruka couldn't find the energy to care all that mattered at that moment to him is that his hair looked soft. So in Iruka's mind high from the pain touching it seemed most logical. Iruka reached out and ran his hand through the boy's hair, tangling his finger around a bit of it.

The boy looked up and saw Iruka's smile accepting that it was helping Iruka stay awake and going back to his pockets. He pulled out a Kunai and bandages. Iruka's stayed focused on the soft white hair while the boy cut the plank so he could move it without taking it out of Iruka's leg. Then he wrapped bandages around Iruka's leg.

Iruka was whimpering from the pain but kept playing with the boys hair. "Alright do you have any other wounds? Or can I move you to safety?" The boy spoke and Iruka took his hand back.

"No, I think that's it" Iruka's voice was quiet but the boy heard. The boy dipped under Iruka's arm and lifted him up. Iruka felt a surge of pain and out of reaction dug his head into the boy's neck.

The boy paused then kept walking. "So kid, what's your name?" Iruka knew the boy was trying to keep him awake and it was working.

"Iruka" his voice barely came out.

"My name is Kakashi. I'm going to try and find a doctor for you okay? You have a cut down your back that needs to be looked at along with your leg."

Iruka knew that much and was a bit surprised when he was set down against a rock. He was far from the fight but didn't remember being carried for long. How did they move so quick? Kakashi turned to leave and told Iruka to stay put though Kakashi doubted Iruka could move. After Kakashi left Iruka felt sleepy and ended up falling asleep.

He woke up to a baby crying, insufferable pain in his leg and back. It was slowly spreading a numbness over his entire body and he could feel it. He didn't want to open his eyes but that baby's crying was hurting his ears. When he opened his eyes he lept up keeping his weight on one foot and taking the baby not even caring who was holding it before. The baby looked like the fourth hokage, Iruka noticed that after he slumped back down against the rock. Once the baby stopped crying the person that had the baby at first was slumped beside Iruka. When he turned he saw Kakashi staring at his hands silently sobbing, his entire body shaking with each sob.

Iruka pulled Kakashi closer and hugged him with one arm holding the baby in the other. They stayed like that for a while before a group of medical ninja found them. Iruka and the baby were taken to the hospital and Kakashi had to go back to dealing with the aftermath of the attack. Iruka wouldn't let go of the baby for hours but after hours he fell asleep releasing the baby.
