2 - follow up feelings

Summary

Iruka was hiding and his roof caved in smashing his leg. Kakashi saved him and brought him to safety before leaving and coming back with a baby. While Iruka cares for the baby during the attack and treatment kakashi has to go back to work despite his emotions.

Kakashi pulled his mask down and a feeling of numbness overtook him. That was usual, show emotion in the dark but never at work. He finished his work day and it was well into the morning. He felt like sleeping but his mind went back to the attack. After he helped Iruka he went back to the attack grounds to find a medical ninja but instead once he got there he found Minato sensei, and Kushina his wife both on the verge of death cuddling their newborn. Kakashi's legs moved faster than his thoughts and he was by their side in an instant. "Minato sensei! Kushina! No don't die on me! Not you too! Nonononono." Kakashi had a hand on each of their shoulders. Minato just reached out with the baby in his hands like he was offering for Kakashi to take it. "Kakashi. Promise me you will take care of Naruto. Raise him to be a hero, kakashi please." Minato's voice kept breaking and Kushina was dead in front of him. Kakashi took the child still rambling about how Minato can't leave him. Then after Minato had the life leave him Kakashi got up to angry and sad to get a medical ninja. They would find Iruka in their sweep of the village. So Kakashi went back. When he got there Iruka was passed out and he couldn't get Naruto to stop screaming. When Iruka took him from Kakashi the mask went off. The attack was over so he let himself take a break. He leg the tears stream down his face and he let himself violently sob thinking that another person died in his hands. He felt Iruka hug him and pull him closer. He didn't care he just kept sobbing.

Instead of getting any bit of sleep he pulled the mask back in place and scaled the hospital walls to the nursery floor. It took him a second but he found Naruto's room. He climbed through the window and sat in a corner with his head in his hands. After a while Naruto started crying so he took off his mask and got up. He got to Naruto's side and picked up the blonde baby. After a bit of rubbing his back and humming Naruto fell back asleep. So Kakashi went down and filed a few papers saying he's Naruto's guardian.

For the next few days he stayed in Naruto's hospital room. After a week Naruto could be taken home and Kakashi figured he should see how Iruka is doing. So a few floors down he wandered into Iruka's room. Iruka was staring out the window and as if on cue when he walked in Naruto saw Iruka and giggled. Iruka jolted and turned to face Kakashi who was now leaning against the wall. "Please Naruto shut up. I'm so tired just be quiet." Kakashi was whispering but Iruka herd him and laughed. "What? do you have something to say about my lack of sleep?" Kakashi raised his eyebrow at a smiling Iruka.

"Ok come here, give me the baby while you sit down. You look like you haven't slept in a week." Iruka held his hands out and Kakashi fell down into the chair.

"I haven't slept in a week. I haven't gone to work or gone home either." Kakashi sighed after talking leaning his head on the wall. "How are you? Clearly still here but are you being released soon?" Kakashi gestured to Iruka who was kissing Naruto's forehead.

"I get out in a few months. They saw once I can walk again but it's not like I have anywhere to go." Iruka paused looking at Kakashi then back at Naruto "My back has a light scar and my leg has a piece of metal in it. So I would say I'm not making it to my genin orientation." Kakashi was a bit taken aback at the mention of genin orientation, but pitied Iruka's condition. Iruka noticed the silenced and turned to Kakashi. "You look young to be in the anbu. How old are you?" Iruka didn't process the anbu uniform on the day of the attack.

"I guess I am a little young, I'm fourteen. Though I've been told I've been through enough to make the cut." Kakashi had been praised for being so young and talented but he never took it well.

"Honestly if you have to go through a lot to be talented and a good shinobi then I think it's-" he paused to cover Naruto's ears, " bullshit"

"Woah, don't you think your a little young to be swearing. And don't swear around the little thing!"

"He's not a thing, and for your information I'm eleven not five I can swear!"

Kakashi laughed at Iruka's protest standing up and picking Naruto up from Iruka's lap. "He looks small enough to be a thing. Anyway I have to go, maybe get some sleep for a bit before I have to go back to work. I'll visit again another time."

"Okay then. When I get out I can babysit Naruto for you." Kakashi could tell iruka was disappointed but he was to tired to care.

When he got back to his apartment the lay Naruto to sleep in his fathers old room then decided to shower. He stripped then stepped into the shower and felt relief for a mere second as he showered because as soon as he got out Naruto started crying. He really just wanted to sleep. He walked into the room that would eventually be turned into Naruto's room and picked up the crying boy. Kakashi sat down on the bed then layed on his back with Naruto on his chest and soon they both fell asleep.

When he woke up it had only been three hours of sleep but it was already light outside. Naruto for once it seemed he was quiet and fast asleep. Kakashi got up keeping Naruto on his chest as he went to the bathroom to brush his teeth and get ready for the day. After getting ready and Naruto waking up he took his savings and went to the store. Seeing all the prices for baby stuff really made him realize he's not fit to raise a child. Still he got Naruto some clothes, diapers, bottles, and food. Then he got himself a book and went back to his apartment.

He fed Naruto and ate some food himself before giving Naruto a bath and dressing him. Once he was done with all the care he dressed himself in his anbu uniform and grabbed Naruto. Kakashi made his way to the hokage's office finding that the third had become the hokage once again in Minato's place. When he walked in the third looked surprised to see Naruto being held in Kakashi's arms. "Sir, I'm going to have to take a few years away from the anbu. I made a promise to my sensei that I would raise Naruto." Kakashi kept his voice clear but he wanted to cry. He couldn't handle a child what is he thinking. This kid is going to end up as bad as Kakashi. He needs to be making money to raise a kid so he can't take off. Another person just died at his hands and now he has to take care of a child instead of moving on he has this thing to remind him of that day for the rest of his life. Naruto had was playing with Kakashi's hair but he was quiet so Kakashi didn't mind. It reminded Kakashi of Iruka playing with his hair when he was trying to find bandages.

"Kakashi, I understand and want you to know personally that you will be given payments monthly for taking care of Naruto. It was Minato's wish that if anything were to happen to him that Naruto was given money to survive." The third was implying that they would have put Naruto in an apartment with some money coming over once a week to feed him until he got old enough to take care of himself.

"Alright, thank you lord third."

He got a nod in response and Kakashi walked out. When he got back Naruto seemed to be getting tired so he set him down for a nap before crying in the corner. Deep sobs quietly echoed through the room as Naruto slept.

Notes:

I'm prewriting a bunch of chapters and might release multiple a week instead of one. My grandparents are going to be in town by the time this is posted and I don't like them so this will be my escape. This first week I think I'll post every other day and see how I feel. Next chapter will be 6/21/22, 10:00 pm or earlier CST. Advice or criticism is welcome as said last chapter. This chapter has been edited.

Personally I don't like how the third just cast him aside with little money while Sasuke lived in luxury.
