Antonella Leone sat rather nervously at the buffet table outside in the Corleone backyard helping the guest with their food that her father Riccardo so graciously catered. For Riccardo Leone was very well known in New York and in Italy as one of the best caterers and chefs to own a series of restaurants. Therefore, when his good friend Vito Corleone personally asked for him to cater his only daughter, Connie Corleone's wedding he was delighted except he had other obligations until Vito made him an offer he couldn't refuse so now here Riccardo Leone stood there catering dishes for Connie's wedding with the help of his only child, daughter Antonella Leone.
Antonella was a beautiful young woman and only 18 years old with so much life to live however she preferred to be to herself and quiet. Antonella was actually studying to be a teacher while also spending her spare time volunteering at shelters, orphanages, and clearly for her father. While she sometimes wish someone else could help, she wouldn't have it any other way.
For she and Riccardo were all alone since her mother Josephine passed away a year ago. It left her father heartbroken and Antonella alone. Antonella related so well with her mother for Antonella was the product of an interracial relationship. Her parents met in her father's native country Italy and her parents fell in love and were married in Sicily where they resided and years later had Antonella who was rather close with her mother scared to be teased for not being Italian enough or teased for not being black enough whenever her family returned to New York.
To say, Antonella's childhood was complicated was an understatement. Yet it was perfect in Sicily because her father had a lot of land that offered the family separation and peace from the outside world that wouldn't accept their union nor the baby conceived from the union.
Antonella stood quietly to the side listening to the traditional Italian music. As she saw how happy all the guests were. Chatting away and seeing the Corleone family being so happy enjoying themselves it was a lovely sight to see. Connie Corleone looked absolutely gorgeous in her wedding dress.
It wasn't until Antonella's father handed her an envelope to give to Connie Corleone did Antonella even move. She simply nodded and walked over to the bride.
As she approached Connie she smiled and hugged her giving her a slight kiss on the cheek.
"Congratulations Mrs. Corleone here's a gift from my father Riccardo Leone and I," I said handing her the envelope with a smile.
"Thank you so much, and the food your father made is delicious it's so lovely to meet you. Our fathers have been friends for years we must talk sometime," Connie suggested as Antonella smiled even though on the inside she grew nervous at that idea for the simple fact Connie and her whole family scared Antonella. Maybe it was because she knew they were mobsters and did illegal things or could have her killed at the snap of the finger but it made Antonella nervous.
"Sure," Antonella said as she congratulated the groom as well before walking away.
"Padre" Antonella called for her father as she walked around to find him.
She didn't know any of these people she was around but yet they seemed to have known her. She walked around with many people telling her how delicious the food her father catered was.
However, she was then stopped by Carmela Corleone who admired the girl talking to her about how she saw her as a baby and when she was baptized at a Catholic Church in Sicily. She even talked to her about how her mother and her we're good friends. Which had Antonella think about how maybe there was more than meets the eye with the Corleone family since apparently, they were close friends with her parents.
"Thank you Mrs. Corleone, but I must find my father. I don't no where he is and I'm pretty sure you all are ready for the cake. So will you excuse me," Antonella said as they hugged and she kissed Mrs. Corleone's cheek and walked away.
It was then did many girls start to scream confusing Antonella until she saw that it was Johnny Fontane, who was a very popular singer.
While trying to get away from the crowd of girls she went to the side of the house where some people were sitting listening to Johnny sing.
And while there she listened to him sing while also humming the tune herself.
Not realizing from across the yard at a table nearby did Michael Corleone saw her and grew attracted to her beauty and her voice. She sounded like an angel to him. Her voice stopped him from finishing his conversation with Kay.
The mystery girl does him in and he didn't even know her. But he wanted to so desperately. He just had to figure a way out.
"Toni...Toni," Riccardo called out getting the young girls' attention.
"Padre, where have you been we need to bring the cake out," Antonella said to her father who nodded his head.
"I know come let's go," Riccardo said as Antonella nodded following after him. As they went to the kitchen to bring out the cake and then with Antonella holding open the doors as her father rolled the cake out and many cheered at the sight of the cake as Riccardo and his daughter smiled happily at the praise of the cake.
As the family took their pictures Antonella smiled as her father whispered in her ear," That will be use the day you get married, Toni. Your mother would be so proud."
The comment warmed her heart as she kissed her father's cheek as Micheal saw this as he was taking pictures with his family. He smiled as he saw the daughter and father's sentimental moment.
The wedding was so lovely. And eventful with Antonella sitting to herself until she was asked to dance by Fredo Corleone which surprised her but she knew to not be rude and she accepted.
They danced with Fredo at times clumsily not being able to keep up so Antonella took the lead with many people looking at the duo dancing while cheering Fredo on since he was dancing clearly with a Sicilian beauty who could get attention without wanting it and who could dance very beautifully.
It was then that as the music ended the crowd cheered for them as Antonella smiled at the young man before waving goodbye leaving him there starstruck.
Somehow Antonella managed to leave a mark on the Corleone brothers that day and they both wanted to get to know her and sooner than later.
