Beverly Marsh and Kay McCall were going to be friends, they both already knew it. It was only their first day of knowing each other, and yet, they sat together in Spanish, had lockers next to each other in P.E., and Kay had just invited Beverly to sit at her lunch table.
Well, maybe invited isn't quite the right word. Spanish for them was fourth period, the period before lunch. And so when Beverly was busy shoving her school bag inside her locker after fourth period, she found Kay patiently waiting for her from behind. Kay had presumed it was a given that they were sitting together, and Beverly had no opposition. And so when they they both sat down at the table with their trays, it was finally time for Bev to be introduced to the new group.
Once all of her friends had arrived, Kay had thought it the right time to start introducing everybody.
"Alright everybody, this is Beverly Marsh. I met her today; she's from Maine. She seems pretty cool so she's sitting with us. Check out?"
'Alright's and 'fine by me's could be heard from the each member of the group. All Kay had to do now was introduce Beverly to everyone else, starting with the girl to her right. She had big blue eyes and bright blonde hair, and looked kind.
"Beverly, this is Pattie Blum. She's shy but nice once you get to know her."
"Hello," Pattie said timidly, and gave her a tiny wave. She seemed as though she was struggling to keep eye contact, which Bev didn't understand, but thought was rather cute.
"Hey," she said back with a smile.
Next, Kay gestured to the girl sitting beside Pattie. She had dirty blonde hair and small green eyes. She already had her hand out ready for Beverly to shake, which she gladly did.
"Hello, I'm Audra Philpott. It's a pleasure to meet you," She said with a thick English accent and a big grin spread across her face.
"You too," Bev replied, reciprocating the friendly energy.
The next girl had the complete opposite energy. She was not paying attention to Bev, nor the situation at hand at all. Instead, her nose was buried in a book. She had piercing brown eyes that looked like they had the ability to kill, and wavy light brown hair. Audra had to shove her shoulder to get her attention.
"This is Susie. She's kinda a hard ass if I'm being honest," Kay said.
The girl paid no attention to Kay's comment. She simply looked up, gave Beverly a nod of acknowledgment , and returned to reading.
"That's Lesley. She can be a bit camp at ti-"
The girl in question was already standing up and bowing down dramatically.
"Tis I, Sir Leslie of Washington High. It is truly an honor to meet you, my noble queen," she said, taking Beverly's hand. She was about to kiss it when Susie grabbed her by the hair and yanked her head back.
"Hey, what was that for?! I was only greeting our guest!" She cried.
"When are you gonna realize that not everybody here is as weird as you?" Susie spat back.
They continued bickering while laughter had erupted from the rest of the group. Once everything had settled down, Kay introduced the last girl. She had bright red hair, similar to Bev's, only darker, and brown almond shaped eyes.
"This is Myra Baines. She's a little weird," Kay said.
"Am not!" Myra objected, before meeting Beverly's eyes and affirming "I'm not," quietly with a smile.
