After 24 minutes of waiting in the car, they finally got to go to the boardwalk. Mrs. Philpott's car couldn't fit the whole group, so Susie and Leslie rode separately with Leslie's mother.
"What took you so long?" Pattie asked, walking over to them.
"It's rush hour," Susie replied.
"And yet all of us managed to be here at a reasonable time, when we had three more people to take care of!" Audra added.
"Yeah, you bozos had us waiting for half an hour!" Kay said.
"And I'm sure you used all that time to insult us then, so can we please just go already?" Susie said, her voice raising.
"Yeah, what's with you being all up in our grill all of a sudden?" Leslie spoke up.
"Can it, Les. Nobody's that interested in your life, we're just pissed off," Kay responded.
"Yeah, Leslie. It's your fault we're late, anyway." Susie said.
"Is not!"
"Is too!"

"So what are we doing now, guys?" Myra asked, as they all stood at the edge of the pier. They had seen the river, and it seemed as though there was nothing left to do. Audra's mom had left and was going to pick them up again at 7, so they couldn't go anywhere.
"I don't know about y'all, but there's an ice-cream stand over there and I'm taking advantage," Leslie said, leaving.
"Me too," Susie said, following the girl.
"You guys know that there's a swimming area right down there? Let's just do that." Kay suggested.
"I didn't bring a swim suit," Pattie replied.
"Fuck it, let's just go in our underwear. Same thing, right?" Beverly said.
"Yeah, and there's like nobody here anyway. I mean, who's coming to the beach at 4:30 on a Tuesday?" Kay added.
"Alright, let's go down then," Audra said, turning around and walking towards the end of the boardwalk.
"Woah, woah, woah. You guys have no style," Beverly stopped her.
"What do you mean?" Pattie questioned.
"This is how it's done," Beverly said before she pulled off her red button up dress, her shoes, and her biker shorts, and dropped them into the sand below the pier. She then climbed over the wooden railing and jumped into the murky green water.
"She's bloody insane!" Audra cried.
"What are you sissies waiting for?!" Beverly yelled from the water.
"What are you doing, Kay?" Pattie asked, as the girl in question dropped her clothes onto the sand, like Beverly had done.
"You heard the girl," Kay responded. "I ain't no sissy."
Kay jumped in the water after Beverly, leaving everybody else no choice but to follow suit.
"Oh, screw this," Audra said before joining the two girls in the water.
"Y'know, we could just-"
"Don't be such a sissy, Myra," Pattie said, following Audra.
