Lia drove as fast as she could. As they reached Karl didn't think twice before jumping out of the car seat and running towards the gate. Lia left the car before the gate and ran inside. "Karl let me see him." she shouted. Karl's dad was sitting on the floor, and his mother beside him. Soon as she saw Karl, her eyes lit up. "Karl look what he has managed to do today, he always keeps injuring himself, now I think his ankle's broken."

Lia crouched down before Karl's dad. "It is a stable fracture, all you need is a cast and few weeks' time and you will be good as new. Also try not to do heavy physical tasks for a few months." Karl's dad had a million questions at that point of time. For a moment he forgot he was in pain and tried to hoist himself upon his broken ankle. "Hey! I just told you not to do that. Keep sitting. I'll write you some pills for the pain." Lia stated in a commanding voice. "And who might you be young lady?" Karl's dad asked perplexed. Lia gave him a standard deer in head lights look before realising her folly. "Oh! I'm so sorry, we haven't met before. Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs, I am Lia, Karl's girlfriend, since yesterday to be honest. I know this might look a little hasty, but in my defence, we both liked each other in high school, so we are kind of picking up from where we left of. I would have been much more genteel if Mr. Jacobs ankle wouldn't have been fractured. Karl, please get your dad to sit in my car I'll take him to my hospital for getting a cast.

"What a pleasant lady you are," Karl's mother said sitting in the car alongside his dad. "Thanks a lot all your help today." "My pleasure Mrs. Jacobs!" "Call me Martha sweetie" "Yeah and me John" Karl's dad piped in. "Here we are, come John I'll get you ready to go" Lia said.

As Lia was wrapping up the formalities, Karl's mom said to Karl, "finally you are dating someone who is genuinely such a nice lady. Never let her go." "Mom I'm pretty sure I will not mess up when I'm dating Lia, who I always liked for so many years in high school." "Yes but you better keep her happy."

"Martha John is all set to go, come I'll drop you, and here are some medications he will have to take for another month." "I cannot thank you enough sweetie, you have helped us a lot today, why don't you have dinner before leaving, anyways it is a bit late now don't you think?" "Thank you Martha that is pretty generous of you." Lia beamed.

Lia and Karl helped his dad get out of the car and into their house, Karl's house wasn't really fancy compared to Lia's but the sheer simplicity of the house was not because they couldn't afford it. It was more due to the fact that the Jacobs never wanted to live an extravagant luxurious lifestyle."

After dinner Lia greatly appreciated the scrumptious lasagna dinner and thanked Martha. Martha in return gave her a big kiss on the cheek and asked her to keep coming. Karl offered to drop Lia to her car which she graciously accepted. Walking to her car, Karl said, "You've already met my parents, what's next I meet yours?" "Easy boy take it slow it has been a day since we got together, now I can understand that this is a 'we met again' story, but give our romance some time to kindle." "I was kidding Lia, obviously I know it will be too fast a move if I meet your parents now. We have all the time in the world, why on earth would we take things so fast? What say date night tomorrow?" "Sure! I'll be free for lunch tomorrow." "Okay then see you tomorrow, I'll get reservations at Olive garden" Karl said. "Karl please tell me you are kidding, you can't be serious, Olive Garden!!" "Relax I was joking Lia, I know Olive Garden is like for couples in their forties." Karl said giggling.

Driving home, Lia recalled the events of the day, she couldn't help but smile thinking of how warm and loving Karl's family was and how she was so lucky to have a guy like him. Her thoughts were interrupted by  her phone ringing. she saw an unfamiliar number on the screen. Assuming it to be some sort of sales call, she picked up.

"Hello? Who it is?" she asked. "Lia I knew you would never forget me. It is me Brendon. I am back for you. You remember how you broke up with me end of term in college because you had to focus on your career? Well a little birdie told me that you are dating someone now. Now that you are available, I believe I should get the first preference because I was with you back in college." "Brendon college is long gone and I think I get to make the choice who I want to date. I am not some sports award you can win. I broke up with you not only because I wanted to focus on myself but also because you were not a good person. I saw you treat people like they were filth. I never want to be with such a man and will never will. So please don't contact me, ever," Lia yelled and disconnected the phone. "Great a perfectly good day ruined by an idiot," she thought to herself. She drove the rest of the way in silence and reached home.

Before going to bed she checked her texts and smiled at Karl's message saying, "Goodnight my love, I promise to make sure we'll see each other in our dreams." "Cheesy but cute," she thought to herself. As she was going to shut her phone, she saw a message from an unknown number, "This Brendon won't stop bothering me" she thought. The message read, "I will make you mine come what may." pretending not to be slightly afraid Lia went to sleep albeit after double checking her door lock.
