Selena

It was my morning shift in the club, since the club was selling food as well. I felt bad for leaving Anita alone in the apartment even though she told me she was feeling well and was going through paperwork.

Mark just told me that I was worrying too much and I couldn't agree with him more when he said I had other things to worry about. I didn't want to think about Mom even though I had to. I needed to visit her in the hospital. Given the little time she had.

I shook my head as if trying to shake the thought off my mind. I had to save her, I owed that to her.

I served food and drinks in the bar with Mark reminding me to smile and make small talks which I rather they were left out. The rest of my shift was the same, I was in the restroom when my phone rang.

“Hello?”

“Ms Holley, you're talking to Doctor Solomon. Do you think you can make it to the hospital it's urgent.” said Doctor Solomon

“Doctor, Is everything okay? Is Mom alright?” I asked visibly worried

“I can't say anything over the phone, Miss. Give the receptionist your last name and she'll show you where to find me. ”she said before dropping the call

I rushed to Mark's office. I hesitated to open the door when I heard two voices.

“He's going to mess up our plan, ” said an unfamiliar voice.

“I will keep an eye on him, he's a distraction we can't afford right now.” said Mark's voice

I knocked and when I entered I found Mark on his seat with no guest at all.

“I got a call from the hospital, I have to rush.” I said

When he saw my face he didn't hesitate before saying I should hurry up and take Anita with me. I bumped into Miracle, whom I didnt notice when I got in.

I couldn't shake the uncanny feeling that this time she wasn't going to make it. Anita took my hand as if she could sense my horripilation. I felt sick as I waited for the doctor who took her time before finding me.

“Mrs Holley's family?” asked Mrs Solomon

“I'm her daughter.” I said as I approached her and she gave me a brief hug

“Selena, I can't believe it the last time I saw you, you were in high school and now so grown up.” she said

“Mrs Solomon, It's great to see you again. I heard my mother was transferred to another doctor but I didn't know it would be you.” I said with a forced smile.

Mrs Solomon. She was once my favourite doctor. When things were still in order, we used to live in her neighbourhood. But when Mom got sick and had to stop working I struggled to make ends meet. When she was transfered to another hospital in a different town, I got to meet Mark and Anita. I still remember that I was best friends with her son, who I heard went to study abroad.

“You're more beautiful than I remember and if it weren't for your rare necklace. I wouldn't have known you.” she said with the biggest smile on her face but when Anita cleared her throat we both turned back to what was on hand.

“Let's go back to business anyway. But I need this to be private, do you mind coming to my office.” she asked while I just nodded my head and Anita gave me quick hug before settling on the seat.

I followed Mrs Solomon to her office.

“Mrs Holley is getting worse day by day. I don't know why her former doctor didn't tell you this but I will be honest with you.” she said and sighed deeply “She's losing it, and I keep worrying that every breath she takes might as well be her last.”
