chapter two

A few days passed since the incident in the Library and my body was starting to recover from the damage done. I lay on my bed staring up at ceiling. My expression was blank and my mind was empty of thoughts. I didn't even want to think about what may have been happening between Leroi and my daughter while I was bedridden.

I suddenly recalled the times he called me to his study and tears rolled down my cheeks as those unwanted memories began to flood my mind again. It was bad enough that Eden was my daughter but she was indeed beautiful and her and Leroi almost looked good together. I hated myself for even thinking this. It almost made me sound jealous.

I was on the receiving end of Leroi's torment for the longest, and yet I somehow fell for a Demon like him. I wanted him to treat me like he treated Sire, but who was I kidding? Sire was beautiful like my daughter and I felt anything but beautiful compared to them.

It was all weighing down on me. Soon I'd be old and dead like my grandfather, and Eden would still be a fresh young tool for Leroi to use. I clutched my bedsheets and bit my bottom lip as tears threatened to fall. There was no use in crying about it.

These things happened. It was life after all.

I closed my eyes and decided to sleep the rest of the day away.

When I woke up again I realized that I had slept longer than I thought. It was already the next day and I was still in bed. I decided that I was too depressed to do my chores and remained in bed all that day as well. No one would even notice right? Wrong.

There was a knock on my door later that day. I didn't budge to answer the door, but then the knocking turned into banging. It startled me and I quickly sat up.

"What is it?" I asked.

The door suddenly opened revealing Leroi. He walked into the room wearing a frown on his handsome face. "You haven't done your chores." He said sternly.

I blushed and looked away, "I haven't been feeling well.." I muttered in response.

"There's no excuse, but since the day is almost over I'll let you off with a warning. Tomorrow you'll have twice as much work, so be sure to get some rest because you'll need it." Leroi said. Then he turned around to leave. I sat there and watched as the door closed behind him.

I let out a sigh of relief when I realized that he wasn't going to beat me senseless.

I suddenly thought of my daughter again. Maybe he'd be preoccupied with her the entire night.

I decided to leave my room and go for a walk to clear my mind. I left my room and walked down corridor. I wandered the halls until I suddenly found myself near Leroi's study, and as I neared it I could hear voices coming from inside.

"Has anyone ever told you how beautiful you are?" I heard Leroi ask someone.

"Yes, but it means a lot hearing it from you sir."

It was my daughter Eden he was talking to inside. I peeked in and saw them standing together. But then Leroi walked closer to her until they were inches apart.

Then he gently caressed her cheek. He leaned in and he was seconds away from kissing her when I finally decided to look away. I ran down the corridor in the opposite direction to get back to my room. Once inside I closed the door and leaned against it out of breath. Then I slid to the floor sobbing.

After what I had seen, I really didn't want to exist anymore. Suddenly nothing mattered, not even my own daughter mattered to me in that moment. She didn't even know that I was her Father and I was already ready to disown her. I cried for what felt like hours before crawling back into my bed. I lay there with swollen eyes until sleep finally claimed me again.

The next day came and I rose early to get started on my chores. I had a dozens of piled dishes to wash and then I had to mop and clean the floors, and tables in the dining room. There had been another party. Of course one I wasn't invited to since I had been demoted.

I'm pretty sure Eden was there with all those other demons. I wonder if she was afraid as I was when I saw them, or maybe she doesn't even know about them. They all looked like normal people and they could have easily deceived her.

I finished most of my chores and that's when I found myself in the Library again. I suddenly remembered that photo of Leroi and Sire and searched for the book it was left in. But when I found the book it was no longer there.

"Looking for something."

I gasped and turned around to see Leroi.

"N-No." I stammered and placed the book back on the shelf. I thought he'd leave after that but he remained standing there staring at me. I lowered my head unable to meet his intense gaze. There was no way I could bring up Sire. It'd only anger him and I didn't want to do that.

"Are you almost finished with your chores?" He finally asked me.

I nodded, "Yeah, I just have to water the flowers in the garden. Then I'll be finished." I informed him.

"Good." Leroi suddenly approached me, once he was close enough he leaned in and whispered something into my ear. "By the way your daughter is really amazing. She's quite remarkable in fact." I could feel a sinister smirk creep onto his face as he pulled away.

I was so angry but only uttered two words, "Thank you."

Leroi smiled, "You're also invited to our next event tomorrow night. There will be a huge Party, and everyone's going to show up. I already have some clothes waiting for you in your room. Be sure to be on your best behavior Aden." He said before taking his leave.

I remained standing there before l fell to my knees. I sobbed into the palms of my hands.

"Are you okay?"

I looked up to see my daughter kneeling in front of me.

"I-I'm fine." I stood up and regained my composure before walking away. I couldn't be near her and knowing that her and Leroi were probably involved I didn't want to be near her.

I made it back to my room and got back into bed. I wanted to cry all over again, but it would do me no good. I decided to save my strength and sleep. I managed to sleep soundly the entire night and the next day came sooner than I had hoped.

I helped Chef Bran prepare the big feast for that night, and then I took a long hot bath before putting on my new tuxedo. I brushed my shoulder length hair before staring at my reflection one last time.

"You look nice."

I quickly turned around to see a new Demon standing in the doorway of my room.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Could I at least get a thank you?" He asked in response.

"Thank you.." I muttered.

"That's more like it. My name is Jak by the way."

"Jak?"

The Demon nodded, "Yes, you said it right. It's a pleasure to meet you Aden."

"How do you know me?"

"I've seen you around. Leroi kept you close, but I noticed that he has a new assistant now. She looks quite a lot like you." Jak said with a small smirk. I took in his appearance for the first time right then. He was tall and handsome with dark blonde hair and green eyes. He was wearing an expensive tux but he probably didn't have a date seeing that he had found his way to my bedroom.

"I suppose she does look like me." I replied.

"I should get going, the party is about to start. See you there." Jak took his leave and I finished getting ready before leaving my room as well. I bumped into Leroi and Eden in the corridor. They were both dressed to impress and they looked like a real couple.

Eden wore a long black gown that dragged the floor, and Leroi wore a matching black Tux.

"Aden follow us." He said and they starting walking ahead of me.

I had no choice but to follow them. We headed straight for the Ballroom and that's were my night of suffering began.
