Izuku Midoriya and the rest of the Titans were inside a classroom, listening to their teacher drone on and on. After saving the city several times and rescuing people in danger, the everyday life of a student seemed like a snail's pace race. Mirio was taking care of Eri and promised to keep the heroes informed of what was going on. But in the meantime, they needed to return to their normal lives and that meant going to school. Right now, the Titans were being given the instruction to something they were not very interested in.
"What we do in the present often defines who we are in the future. Some more philosophical members of society would say that the outcome of our lives are carved in stone when we are born. But I disagree with one crucial part of that feeling. Fate and destiny are not written in stone. But they may be written with a number 2 pencil." The teacher explained before pulling up the next slide on the screen. "In a week, you will all be taking a Career Aptitude Test, or CAT. This is similar to the same tests that many, if not most of you, will have to present for your college applications. Depending on your score, you will be given more chances to succeed and make your own futures. Do not take this lightly."
With the ring of the school bell, the class was dismissed, leaving the students with a sense of dread in the case of some, while others were fairly optimistic.
"Oh man, I can't believe that test is going to take place so soon. It's too much pressure!" Karen said. "What if I mess up?"
"We have to study for this test and be ready for anything. If we focus on what we're supposed to do, we will ace this test no problem." Jessica said.
"Easy for you to say, half of the schools my dad wants me to apply to need like super high scores and GPA. With my grades, I'll be nowhere near close to getting accepted." Barbara said, going through page after page of knowledge on her textbook.
"At least you know where you want to go. I have trouble figuring out which school I should apply to." Barbi pointed out.
"Too bad for you dweebs, me and my sister already have it figured out." Kara said, fist pumping Galatea.
"You said it, sis." Galatea added with a smug grin.
"Well, not all of us have it figured out like you two." Tatsu snapped. "I have made some good progress here thanks to my knowledge and skills, but hero agencies for quirkless people are in very short supply."
"That sounds very unfair if you ask me." Zee commented. "What other job opportunities are you looking for?"
"Law was what my parents liked for me, but I've been looking at a history degree if I can find a subject that really grabs me." Tatsu replied.
"How is it possible for a single test to have such power over the lives of the young? This test is nothing short of the work of an evil mastermind." Diana said, going over the study guide of the test. "Some of these things do not make sense. Not even Sisyphus was tasked with carrying out such a trial."
"Well, Diana, these tests were made with the purpose of making every student be at the same level. Which hasn't exactly been good for some students." Izuku explained. "It's something that happens all over the world, even in Japan."
Diana looked at Izuku with a confused look. She was more than acquainted with the legends and myths of heroes and gods who had their fates foretold, but the idea that a piece of paper that was less than a scroll was too much. She was hoping to get more knowledge from her friends but they seemed to be just as lost as she was. She tried to figure out how something mere mortals wrote on could decide the fate of someone without some divine intervention.
"Wait, so what if I want to be a hero but this test tells me that I am not worth it?" Diana asked.
"I don't think that's one of the desired careers." Barbara said, pointing to the dream job examples.
