It was a nice sunny day in the city of Metropolis. No one was unhappy and no one had a care in the world. However, there was one person that did not share in the jollyness of the day.

"Dammit!"

Lex Luthor smashed his computer screen in anger.

The cracked screen showed a news article about Superman stopping illegal weapons purchasing at the docks. The article went on to describe how the Man of Steel stopped a group of terrorists from getting their hands on the experimental Lexcorp weapons.

"That blasted alien just can't keep his nose out of my business," Luthor groaned. "Now, I'm out 50 million and no weapons."

"Then perhaps sir, it would be prudent to stay out of the weapon business for a time," Mercy suggested.

"Don't be ridiculous. Selling weapons is a big part of this company's income," Lex explained. "If I stop making weapons, I'll lose money. That so-called hero has cost me big. And it isn't the first time he's done this either."

Lex glared at the screen.

"He's doing this just to spite me. I know that," Lex rambled. "If there was only a way to get rid of him and all those costumed freaks once and for all."

Mercy had to force herself from rolling her eyes. Her boss, as smart and ruthless as he was, could be such a man child when things didn't go his way. Sure, working for him paid the bills but sometimes his schemes had gotten a little too close for comfort. She had even thought about quitting, but the paycheck had its pull. A beep from her phone caught her attention.

"I'm sorry Mr. Luthor, but I must remind you that we're late for the satellite testing," Mercy said, hoping that she could stop his rambling.

Luthor sighed in annoyance.

"Right, let's see what the boys in the lab have cooked up," Luthor sighed.

Luthor and Mercy went down on the elevator to the bottom floor of the Lexcorp building. When the door opened up it showed a group of scientists and engineers working on the schematics of a group of satellites. The computers showed the pictures of different satellites floating above the city of Metropolis.

The scientists turned to face both Luthor and Mercy.

"Ah, Mr. Luthor, welcome to the lab. We're-" the head scientist began.

"Is it ready?" Luthor said, cutting the scientist off.

"Yes, we were just about to-"

"Then turn it on. I need to see if my satellites actually work," Luthor said, stepping closer to the screen.

The head scientist walked up to his console and began typing the commands on it. The whole room watched with breath in hand at what the satellites were meant to do.

On the screens, it showed the satellites turning their panels towards the light of the sun. As the sunlight was being absorbed by the panels, the energy was being contained within the inner batteries of the satellites.

"Congratulations Mr. Luthor, your satellites have managed to absorb enough energy to power half of the city should it be needed," the head scientist said. "Now, all we've got to do is test out the laser function and the antenna for the transfer."

"Yes, that's all nice and good. But tell me, do you think you could alter the light spectrum of the energy?" Luthor asked with the shadow of an evil smile stretching on his face.

Mercy facepalmed herself.

"Um, yes sir. We think it could be possible," the head scientist muttered.

"Excellent," Luthor said. "Could we test out the solar output? To see if we can light up the city until we can get the laser going?"
