"𝐒tudents! Gather round, gather round. May I ask you all to please welcome our new first years." A round of applause filled the great hall. The crowd of children centered to the attention basked in the spotlight, ready to begin their years at Hogwarts. Amidst the kids, a certain boy with curious green eyes marveled at everything — he was certainly not used to seeing magic.A girl with brunette hair smiled at the boy, he was cute. His mouth agape as he watched the candles float with the majestic sky ceiling right above him. The girl figured this was Harry Potter, the boy everyone has been talking about. His scar already a big giveaway. All eyes will be on him, and she could not be happier. Fawna Perry was not too fond of attention, and for some reason she was cursed to have it always follow her.
Maybe it was because of her family or how she presented herself, nevertheless she promised to thank the boy once the ceremony was done. At the thought of it, the young girl giggled to herself knowing he would most for sure be confused at her thanks. Unbeknownst to her however, whist she was busy observing the boy in front of her, another boy was doing the same to her.
His intentions though were the complete opposite from the girl's. Luis Berbrooke's eyes never left her figure from the moment they entered the great hall — and he did not know why. He thought it to be strange, focusing so much on a girl who has yet to even glance back at him. And the more he watched her, the more he started to notice how beautiful she was.
Soft chestnut hair that reached her shoulders, accompanied with a black ribbon that complimented her uniform. Slightly slanted blue eyes, and perfectly sun kissed skin. His whole body froze when he heard her laugh, and everything then was clear. He fell for the girl — who's name was still unknown to him.
As his attention was on the girl who mindlessly observed the sorting ceremony, he did not even notice his own name being called out. "Luis Berbrooke!" He would later in his years detest this embarrassing moment, as an impatient McGonagall repeated his name, as a few students begun to turn heads wondering who Luis Berbrooke was and why he did not answer, everything in this moment froze when her doe blue eyes met with his.
"I'm guessing you're Luis Berbrooke? I noticed you were the only one not paying attention to the professor during the sorting." God, even her voice was mesmerizing.
With a nervous nod, he went up the platform, nervously smiling at McGonagall who jested on him finally remembering his name — earning a few laughs from the students. As the sorting hat sat atop his head, his eyes wondered to the girl who gave him a reassuring smile. He was not even paying attention to the house the hat yelled, his eyes quickly diverting to the Slytherin table that cheered for him.
Stepping back, ready to join his new housemates, a hand grabbed his wrist causing him to turn around. Fawna smiled brightly at him, causing the boy to blush.
"I'm Fawna Perry by the way, nice to meet you." He smiled back.
"Luis Berbrooke, but you know that already." She laughed, causing him to laugh in turn.
Fawna waved him goodbye as he went to the direction of his table, turning back her attention to the sorting — waiting patiently for her turn.
.
Luis sat beside Draco Malfoy, a boy who's preferred pastime was to badmouth Potter. Although what he did say was bad, Luis could not help but suppress a laugh from seeing the dumbfounded faces of his goons. Unfortunately, the blonde heard him and swiftly turned to the boy. "Are you laughing at me?"
Quickly composing himself, he straightened up with a polite smile. "Not at all Malfoy." He did not buy it, but after a few seconds of observing, Draco's face broke out into a sly smile.
"Aren't you the boy who forgot his own name during the sorting ceremony?"
"I see I have left an impression on you. I wasn't aware my name would be remembered by someone such as yourself." Luis replied.
Draco scoffed. "How could I? Professor McGonagall resembled a broken record, repeating your name over and over again."
The ravenette smiled. "Then you are aware of my last name then?"
Suddenly there was a serious look on Draco's face. "Yes, Berbrooke."
Luis hummed. "Well then, I look forward to our years together as students Malfoy."
.
"Fawna Perry!" She stepped up to the chair, the weight of the sorting hat on her head. After a few moments of silence, it finally reached its answer.
"Ravenclaw!" The table of Rowena cheered for their new member. A gleeful Fawna joining them, her eyes instinctively glanced at the Slytherin table to see a smiling Luis clapping for her.
Everything was in slow motion, as if everyone disappeared and they were the only ones left. These following years at Hogwarts will truly be one to remember.
