Not Me ~ A Hamliza Mystery

"Eliza!" Peggy called and ran after her sister. She found her sitting on a curb, crying into her knees. Peggy sat beside her and rubbed her back, giving her a small hug.

"I'm so sorry! I ruined the investigation! I got caught up in my feelings and let it slip! I'm sorry that I told him, I know I shouldn't have!" Eliza cried into her sister. Angelica came out a few minutes later.

"It has to be him! We have to take this to the police!" She said and threw her arms in the air dramatically. Eliza looked up, gave a small smile, and nodded.

"It has to be him... he fell right into place... but it's strange because I thought he would lie about it... why would he just give himself in?" Eliza wondered, "and if it is him, where is Alex? We have 12 hours left to find him."

"Let's just go to the police-" Angelica started but Peggy cut her off.

"The police? You trust the police now? After they did nothing at first? They did nothing and look what we found! They aren't going to do anything now! Let's just do this on our own. No police. We got this."

Angelica shook her head. "This could get dangerous. If it is Francis, we could all be seriously hurt. Alex could be-" she stopped when she saw Eliza's devastated look, "Alex is ok. We're going to find him."

Eliza knew that might not be the case. It terrified her. She didn't want to lose her husband. Not now. Not like this. Why did it have to be her? Of course, she didn't wish this on anyone... but why her?

"Peggy, can you go get me something more to eat? I'm starving." Eliza asked. Peggy nodded and left for McDonald's. Eliza took a deep breath once she was gone.

"We don't have a warrant to search Francis's house or phone or anything... but the police can get one." Angelica said, thinking she knew what her sister was thinking.

Eliza shook her head. "No, Peggy was right about the police. But we know someone on the inside who will help us." She smiled and got up, going back to Francis's house.

"Liam! We need help!" Eliza called into the house as she knocked. Liam appeared at the doorway with a small smile. "May we come in and look around?" She asked. Liam nodded and let them in.

Eliza smiled and pulled her sister in. They went to the attack and the basement. Every room was checked. Still no Alexander. Once every room was checked, they went back to see Liam.

"Can we see your phone and your husbands, please?" Eliza asked nicely. Liam handed over his phone and then Francis's, putting in the passcodes.

Eliza and Angelica looked through everything. Texts, socials. They checked Facebook to see if either of them were Norman. Still nothing.

"Well... I guess Francis was just in the wrong place at the wrong time..." Angelica sighed when a text popped up on Francis's phone.

I'll pay you soon. Thanks for getting Alex for me. I owe you one.

"OH MY GOD! WE GOT HIM!!" Angelica shouted. Eliza looked over, confused. Angelica showed her the text and her eyes widened.

"It's John- oh my God! It's John!" Eliza said excitedly then stopped. "Peggy is going to be devastated when she finds out ... "

Angelica shook her head. "Heartbreak is temporary. Let's go to John's house and get Alex and you call the cops from the car!"

Eliza nodded and raced outside, giving the phones back to Liam and saying a quick thank you. Angelica unlocked the car and texted Peggy to meet them at her house. Eliza called the cops and told them about John and Francis.

Angelica drove as fast as she could (and a little faster) to Peggy's house. Peggy's car was there and so was Johns.

"We should wait for the police-" Angelica said but was cut off by Eliza going up to the door and knocking loudly. Angelica sighed and followed her sister.

John opened the door and his eyes widened at Eliza. "Why are you here? Wheres Peggy?" He asked. Eliza didn't answer and tried to push past him.

"Hey! You're not allowed in there!" John shouted at her and pushed her to the ground. She hit her head on a rock but nothing was bleeding.

"That's enough! Both of you! John, we know Alex is here. Please let us see him." Angelica said calmly and helped a dazed Eliza up. Peggy came up behind them.

"You two are in so much trouble now. Take them to the basement with Alex." Peggy said and laughed at them as John and a couple other guys, who seemingly came out of nowhere, came up and grabbed them.
