It was a dark and stormy early morning. 4 AM to be exact. The overhead storm had made the sky even darker and much more gloomy outside and you were still peacefully snoozing...That is until a loud BOOM from the clouds shook you from your rather peaceful slumber.
With a jolt and whimper, you sat up and instinctively curled into a fetal position, bringing your hands up to your ears. The heavy rainfall pelted down onto the glass windows, the trees outside swung intensely as the wind picked up with the storm. A bright flash lit up once again and brought on another loud series of thunder in the dark room which you had forgotten you were in, in the first place. You cracked open one of your tightly clenched eyes once the wave of thunder rolled pass and you had a few moments of calm.
You were met with the light greenish-blue blanket you were half underneath. Wait a minute...your bed wasn't this color...Then you remembered! You had agreed to stay over your friend Bandu's house for the night since you had nothing better to do at your own home and he said it would be fun! which in fact, it most certainly was. But, if you were at Bandu's house then he had to be here too! After another lightning shock and the thunder that followed, you looked over at the other side of the bed for your friend.
Bandu was there! But he was still somehow asleep, even with all of the sudden noise. He was sprawled out across the bed, a section of the blanket tangled up around him as he drooled on his pillow. You took a long moment to look at him and giggled. He was so cute and so nice to you too. He cared for you, and you did the same for him! Even if you two had only known each other for about a month or two at this point, it felt like you had known each other since the beginning of time...Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration, but it was true for the most part.
You two just...clicked! Your interests matched up perfectly and while Bandu was on the more excitable and talkative side, you were more reserved and quiet but he was patient with you and did most of the talking for you too, which you were grateful for. He was perfect to you. And, yeah, you couldn't lie to yourself anymore. You had a bit of a crush on him...okay, it was a BIG crush. You couldn't help but remember all of those little things he does that you picked up on...
The way he looks at you with so much admiration and joy when he thinks you're not paying attention, when you talk in calls with him on Discord and he squeals in excitement every time, his warm hugs and the way he takes a hold of your hand without thinking whenever you're hanging out, and how his smile grows when you smile back. It made you wonder...did he feel the same about you?
Another violent crash of thunder and rain shook you from your thoughts and back into your tense fetal position. The knowledge that you weren't alone helped you calm down faster though. You hoped the storm would pass soon. With a shaky sigh, you plopped back down against the pillow you were provided, pulling the covers up to your neck. You turned on your side to look at your friend again, admiring him.
He was actually a lot closer than he looked when you were sitting up. The bed was rather small in comparison to two people sleeping in it, you noticed. You gently shimmied over closer to Bandu as your leg threatened to fall over the side of the mattress and land against the fursuit he had. Another crash of thunder sounded out in the otherwise quiet room. This time, you managed to hold back the yelp in surprise for the sake of Bandu but you couldn't help grabbing onto your friend for some sort of comfort. Thankfully, it didn't seem to bother him at all as he continued to sleep soundly, not budging an inch. You lightly gripped the other's sweater in between your fingers before your cheeks flushed and you realized what you were doing. But before you could pull your hand away, Bandu stirred in his sleep, lifting a disembodied hand to your back and pulling you closer to himself as if you were some plush toy. Your eyes widened in surprise as you were now being used as a pillow by your best friend/crush combo.
Your blushed deepened as you felt the man nuzzle against your neck, his soft breaths warmed your previous fear in the cold of the room. It was...peaceful. Other than the heavy downpour and distant rumbling from outside. Time passed and eventually you and the storm calmed down enough that you were now half asleep and cozy under the hold of your friend. That's when another sudden and extremely loud lightning strike rumbled the house. This time you did jolt and yelp out of surprise. And that's when Bandu finally stirred and peaked an eye open to look up at you in the dark.
"Huh? Y/n? Are you doin' alright?" He asked you, his voice quiet as he pushed himself up into a sitting position beside you, a concerned look on his features.
You breathed heavily through clenched teeth as you felt your heartbeat slowly calm down. "M-mhm!" You added in a slight nod as you sat up straighter. Bandu looked you up and down in doubt and placed a hand on your shoulder. "Is it because of the thunder?" He asked, and as if on cue another flash of lightning followed by rumbling sounded out, but it didn't affect you as much when you had someone to talk to, kind of like a distraction. You stayed quiet however, looking down at the blanket the two of you were on before finally nodding. You heard Bandu let out a sigh of relief before he leaned in and hugged you. You instinctively leaned into him too, wrapping your arms around him. He smelled like candy (the ones from the livestreamed 3 AM challenge you two did a collab on earlier in the night.). You allowed yourself to relax in his metaphorical arms while you hugged.
The two of you stayed like that for a while, even as the new wave of thunder and lighting continued outside. You tentatively rubbed your hands up and down your friend's sweater, feeling the warm material of it on your palms along with the rise and fall of your friend's breathing. Bandu squeezed you closer to himself, nuzzling more into you. Suddenly, Bandu spoke up as the thunder quieted down, "Hey...Y/N. I wanna tell you somethin'..." His voice was hushed, almost a whisper as he shifted slightly and you felt one of his hands caress the back of your head, gently brushing his fingers through your hair. You were glad he couldn't see your face as it was now tomato red from the gesture. "...Yeah?" You shakily asked, wondering what exactly he wanted to tell you.
You felt him take a deep inhale and exhale before answering, "I...kinda, um, like you..." He trailed off, and if you weren't right next to him you probably wouldn't have heard him at all. But...this did satisfy your previous thoughts. But you had to make sure. "L-like...you love me?" You stuttered, almost in shock but you always had the sneaking feeling that he did, you just never knew for sure and you didn't want to outright assume. "Yeah...I hope it's not too much to handle for ya'. I just, y'know...I should be open with you 'bout this stuff! I'm sorry..." You felt him cling onto your back and nuzzle the side of your head even more. "Aw, Bandu...I actually feel the same about you..." Your heartbeat sped up again, but not out of fear this time as you lightly dug your fingers into his sweater, burying your face into the crook of his neck.
Bandu stiffened at your response confession, but he relaxed soon after, relieved. "I'm so glad! I-I never thought you or anyone would be interested in me..." He sounded distantly sad, but at the same time happy. "Why wouldn't they be? You're amazing! " You were surprised at yourself for speaking up, but it seemed to affect Bandu well. He was quiet for a minute before he started chuckling quietly. He sounded so cute... He finally pulled back slightly to look you in the eyes, a small smile on his face.
The thunder had now subdued almost completely, but yet the rain remained. Soft taps of the liquid plinked against the windows as the two of you stared into each others eyes longingly. Bandu leaned in slowly and his eyes became heavy-lidded as he simultaneously pulled you closer to his form. Your cheeks burned as you got pulled into him, bringing one of your hands from his back to his face. You gently ran a thumb over his cheek as you shyly leaned in, your eyes fluttered shut when you finally connected. The two of you kissed and you could tell he was inexperienced, but so were you. His lips were soft and gentle on yours but as soon as it happened, he pulled away, seemingly shocked by his own forwardness. He looked like he was about to say something before you stopped him with another kiss, dragging it on longer this time.
Both of his hands came up to cradle your cheeks in his palms as he tilted your head to get a better angle. Yet again, you both pulled back, flushed and slightly out of breath. Bandu's grin couldn't get any wider as he looked at you with joy, and you smiled back. "I love you, Y/N!" Bandu said, his eyes lighting up even more than before, as if he finally realized you two felt the same about each other. "I love you too, Bandu.." You said back, your blush deepening.
Soon after, you two had fallen into a comfortable silence and eventually dozed off together, the rain now just a light drizzle as the sun rose through the dark clouds.
You were thankful Bandu was here, or else you would have had a terrible night otherwise. He was your sunshine.
