Two years later, Taehyung graduated. And instead of going back home, he stayed with his boyfriend. He took his licensure exam and became a certified accountant, got a job at a local firm, all until Jeongguk got his Literature degree and they went back to their hometown to permanently settle there.
Taehyung worked for a well-known corporation while Jeongguk for a publication company as an editorial assistant.
The latter only had that job for a year because he followed his calling and instead of editing others' works, he became a writer himself. He wrote children's stories and was great at it.
Five years into their relationship, they decided they're ready for the next step. The proposal moment was one for the memories too.
"Gukkie, this isn't a banana," Taehyung joked as he brought out a ring box during a romantic dinner onboard a cruise ship. Up to that day, he still teased the other how a mere banana was the very reason why a closed off 5-year-old Jeongguk accepted him as a friend.
"But I hope you'll marry me." He opened it, presenting a silver band.
Jeongguk's jaw dropped, staring at the ring. But soon the corners of his mouth were tugging up.
His reaction baffled Taehyung; he was smirking, then he was shaking his head in disbelief and then biting his lower lip in an attempt to stop a looming smile.
He didn't respond, just got up and walked away.
"H-hey!" Taehyung panicked.
Jeongguk dug inside the pocket of his coat that was hanging on a rack by the door of their private booth.
He came back and sat down on his chair, placing a ring box on the table.
It was Taehyung's turn to be surprised. "You were planning on proposing tonight, too?!" His hands flew over his own mouth.
The other giggled. "Yeah. I was supposed to ask you later after dinner, while we're sightseeing at the deck!"
"Wow… just— how dare you ruin my plans?" Taehyung playfully accused him.
"No. How dare you ruin mine? I've been planning about this for months, hyungie!" he got up, pulled Taehyung up too and dived in for a slow kiss.
"Now, what are we gonna do with two sets of rings?" He asked in amusement.
"Well, at least we don't have to worry about buying wedding bands now." Taehyung laughed heartily.
