|The Summer I Turned Pretty imagine|
|Name: Annie|

"Annie!" The boy called from the steps leading up to the house. Not even the loud music could muffle out his voice, the way it sent goosebumps up her arm every time he said her name. But she didn't turn around, she wouldn't. The brunette just kept walking down the driveway and towards the empty street.
"Annie, wait!" He called again, this time his frantic footsteps being heard as he rushed down the stairs, his shoes hitting the pavement as he started into a light jog to catch up with her. Thunder could be heard rumbling in the distance, causing concern to swell in his chest.
The girl tried to move her feet faster, but no matter what, Conrad Fisher would always catch up with her. She could hear his breaths, slightly heavier than normal. His shoes came to a stop only a few feet away from her as she turned around. "What, Conrad!" She expressed with annoyance, the words coming out a little more harsh than intended.
He was taken aback by her tone, having to clear his throat before continuing. "Uh- Are you okay? I saw you kind of storm out of there." His expression was soft and confused, indicating that he had no idea why the girl was upset.
Conrad rocked back and forth on his heels, the quiet making him nervous before she just sighed, "Wow, so you really have no idea do you? God, I am such an idiot." Annie cursed herself, knowing it was all just too good to be true.
"No idea about what-" The boy began, only for the rumble of thunder to interrupt him. "Come on, Annie, it's gonna start raining. I don't know what's up, but I'm sure we can finish talking about it inside." He cautiously took a step closer in hopes that she would just give him her hand. But the girl only took another step back.
Times like these were difficult for Conrad to navigate. It was very rare that his best friend was this upset with him. Normally it would resolve by them talking it out, hugging, then going for a snowcone at a stand that was just down the road. But this situation seemed different, at least, Annie was making it sound different.
"First Nicole, then Belly, then- I could've sworn we shared a moment, but I guess I'm just an idiot because there you were, sitting on that couch while Nicole had her hand on your leg. And don't pretend like you weren't flirting back, I saw you." The disappointment was all that he could get from her words, nothing but lost hope.
Conrad felt all kinds of confused, along with one emotion that he didn't truly expect, a sliver of anger just blossomed at the surface at the mention of the two other girls' names. The way she said them, it was like at this moment, she despised them.
"You don't have to mention them." He said quietly, looking down. "They have nothing to do with this-"
"Actually, Conrad, they have everything to do with this!" Annie snapped, unable to believe that he had no idea why she was so upset with him. Taking that they had been best friends since they were young, she thought that he'd have it figured out by now. "Nicole likes you but you like her and then don't but then you always spend time with her. Then Belly, likes you but you don't want to like her but you do then she gets with your brother? Nothing makes sense anymore!"
Slow drops of rain began to fall from the sky as they were now standing in the middle of the empty street.
The boy's skin felt hot, that sliver of anger growing and overtaking his confusion. He hated that she resided his actions so perfectly, making him sound like a total dick. "Enough, Annie!" He raised his voice, the rumbling only becoming louder. "I don't know where this is coming from, but-"
"But what? You know exactly where this is coming from, Conrad! Everything I'm saying is the truth. You've fucked around so much that you have no idea what you want."
"You have no idea what I want, and let's not pretend you're so innocent yourself. What was that guy's name, Keegan?" He fired back, only trying to find words that would hurt her so she would feel as bad as he did right now.
"It was one kiss for spin the bottle, get over yourself!"
"Are you sure about that? Because he looked like he definitely wanted more than just that one kiss."
Now Annie could feel her skin turn hot, angry at the boy before her. Her one spin the bottle kiss was no comparison to what he was doing, hopping between the three girls. But she also thought about the other factor, how was he supposed to know that she had feelings for him since they were young? She battled internally with herself, telling her brain that he should've already known, that her signs were enough, but sometimes this boy could just be oblivious.
"No that's unfair, you have no right to bring that up!" The rain then went from a light drizzle to pouring in a matter of minutes, their faces only lit up by a single street lamp.
Conrad took only a step closer to her, slowly trying to close the distance. This time, she didn't back away. "Oh really, it's unfair?" His wet hair was now sticking to his forehead, his shirt clinging to his body from being drenched by the rain.
"Yes, it's unfair!"
Both teenagers let out a frustrated groan, the boy running a hand through his hair, allowing only a few seconds of silence before continuing.
"Do you actually think I was enjoying Nicole's company?" He shouted over the sound of the rain hitting the ground. "Now you were quick to judge before I could even say anything."
"What's that supposed to mean?" She shouted back, this time a little less angry.
"I'm just saying there's an explanation to everything, Annie. Sure I might have been sitting with Nicole, and maybe she was flirting, but that doesn't change the fact that you were the only person on my mind. I thought I could chase away the thought, distract myself because I am not good for you and we both know that. But as soon as I saw you walk in, from that moment, you took over my thoughts. You were all I could think about, no matter how hard I tried not to." His tone gradually became calmer, his voice still loud.
"Who are you to determine whether you're good enough for me or not? I think I can make that decision for myself, Conrad." And she already knew the answer to that question, even a blind person would know that he wasn't good enough for her. But when it came down to listening to her heart or her head, she would choose her heart.
"Because I know how I can be and I know you. I can't give you what you want and you know that." The brunette boy had hoped that his words were convincing enough, but he didn't even believe them.
"I don't believe you." In all of their arguing, neither truly realized how close they were to one another, only a small distance kept them apart. Annie looked up at him, water droplets ran down his face from his forehead. She studied his eyes, holding a desire that she had never seen before. They flicked back and forth from her eyes to her lips and the girl didn't notice that she was doing the same.
Conrad was the first to move, understanding that he could be risking their friendship, he figured that she wanted the exact same thing he did. Before he could talk himself out of it, he quickly connected her lips with his.
Annie couldn't help but completely melt at the feeling of her lips on his, the long-awaited moment finally happening. Warmth spread throughout her body, starting at her chest and going to her fingertips. Like the tiny spark had finally been ignited. She could taste the water that landed on his lips, never thinking that a moment could be so perfect.
He rose a hand to cup her cheek and the other held tightly onto her waist, pulling her closer to him. She wrapped her arms around his neck, her hands threading through his wet hair, tilting her head so he could deepen the kiss. All of the fighting and emotions, the constantly covered opinions, led down to this single moment, both finally getting what they longed for.
Neither had a care in the world about how drenched their clothes were as the rain around them didn't even matter. What mattered the most was that they were now both on the same page, and could finally start what they secretly always wanted.
